Not youth sports but when I was coaching HS basketball I had a parent come up to me after the last game of the season asking why their kid didn't get to play. This young man only got to play in blowouts because he wasn't that good. The issue was this mom hadn't come to any of the games besides this one and the player was telling her he was playing and scoring all these points. I calmly said "Are you serious" and walked away.

I have found that in swimming, the incidents at competitions are rare. The one I posted about above is the only one I have ever personally witnessed.

That being said, the drama out of the pool is something to behold. Swimmers switching teams, coaches recruiting swimmers, coaches using influence with third parties to hurt other teams. Its dirtier than I imagined.

Rules now state that the runner must avoid contact, so he just continues to park his little arse there.

Rules also state that a player cannot block the base or base path without the ball or while in the act of catching the ball. So, if he's just standing in the base path, he can be called for obstruction.

Daughter's U-16 soccer team played the first game of the season against a team from the valley. When they took the field, girls on the other team started throwing gang signs at each other. Next thing you know, all the players, coaches and parents of the other team are brawling with each other. We took our kids to a safe area. Sheriff's Office and CHP had to come in force to restore order. Who knew you couldn't have Nortenos and Surenos on the same team.

his perception of his own 14 yo grandson was that he can't handle being punched out

At that age the grandson should tell him to hush

you should re read

In catching or in the act of catching(which also includes in flight balls thrown toward or in the vicinity). The defender has a right to his defensive position

I wish I had the time to post ... my son played competitive lacrosse and hockey for 10+ yrs, I coached hockey for 13 yrs .... ahhh the stories I could tell. Its very common to see 5-0 at a rink. Hockey mom is the worst offender.
As an FYI while coaching if you ask the ref if he wears the same helmet when he gets on the short bus in the morning you will be asked to leave the bench.

Someone was telling me about a certain parent that takes over every team his kid gets on at Dixie. Like, the assigned coach eventually gives up and stops coaching

I'm the same way. I don't get to riled by the officials but I do get pissed when my son puts forth piss poor effort.

Last weekend he had a rugby match. He misses a tackle bad, like he did it on purpose bad. I told him it's not fare to anyone of his teammates for him to be playing with no effort, put forth more effort. After that he was a beast, had a quite a few tackles, was rucking, scored a try. Sometimes they need to be reminded that being lazy sucks.

There was a Canadian series called "The Tournament" that poked fun at youth hockey parents. One scene where a father stole from the family vacation fund to put a coach that was scouting his kid for a better team up in a suite at the Hampton Inn was funny. Single mom banging the coach for playing time. Awesome.

I feel like a travel ball series would do well in America.

My daughter, at one time was a cheer leader for a "TIFI" league, kinda like pee-wee here in Houston....i tried to approach her because she look dehydrated and some dumbass cheer mom told me i wasnt allowed to speak to them while even in the stands. Next Year I became the "voice" of the team and announced all the names and did play by play. When I went to ck on my Daughter she said only staff allowed and i showed her my credentials, shirt hadnt come in yet!, and she backed the F off!

ETA: its hard for me because sometimes i stutter! but i wanted to be certain that i had access, my EX hated that because she could not!

I was at my 5 year old's soccer game last weekend where they play 3v3 on tiny little goals. No goalies are allowed.

Well the other team had this little waste that just stood in the goal and chewed on his shirt the entire time making it virtually impossible to get the ball in for my daughter and her team.

After a few minutes of giving the kid a chance to move after being reminded several times by the others kids that goalies were not permitted this dad walks on the field and says get out of the goal you shirt sucking little fairy and swatted him down and out from in front of the goal.

That dad was me and that kid will never make that mistake again.

Soccer practice for 2 hours, 30 minutes away, on Tuesdays and Thursdays...games an hour and a half away Saturday morning at 8:30 and 5:30, and 8:30 and noon on Sunday. Hotel room and all. Every weekend for two seasons a year with more practice in the offseason. Guest playing on other teams and practice with them, Mon and Wed, when that happens. That's A LOT of time for me to give up...I want to see effort.

The kid is 11? How about you let him be a kid?

And what is this time you're giving up? would you rather be at home playing on your phone, or watching SC6? The only time you're giving up is spending actual quality time with your kid.

1991 Dixie Youth District Championship game. We're up by 1, final inning of play. Their big hitter comes to the plate and I intentionally walk him ( I was coaching). Their fans go bat shite crazy. Several Dads actually come out of the stands, come down to our dugout and begin harassing our coaches and players. They're lined up along the fence on the third base side of the field and finally my third baseman (a little smart arse country kid) starts looking at them and laughing.

We strikeout the next batter, punch our ticket to the State Tournament and have to have police escort us off the field. Good times.
