This dude came strolling by on my porch a bit ago. A triceratops beetle. I scooped it up, put it on a railing, and got some close ups.

I'm bumping again, because I got these two Giant leaf-footed bugs that look like they're about to drop a rap album.

Not all that great to have on a fig tree, but I let them be.

They look similar to the wheel bugs I see from time to time...

I only took a few pictures today, but I accidentally bumped my ISO up to 25600, so I ended up with a bunch of

Been there.
I feel like I do more checking than shooting most of the time.

They're in the same family. Wheel bugs are bigger. I think they're the largest leaf-footed bugs we have.

I took this one last night of Brocchi's cluster, or "The Coathanger" or as I call it, "the little backwards J."

It's such a tiny asterism you can't see it with binoculars, you need a telescope or mounted camera with long exposure.

I forgot about these. Obviously, I didn't take the originals, but I did take pics of the Kodachrome slides using a light box and my phone camera. Cleaned them up using the Snapseed app. They're all from Greenland in the early-to-mid 1950s during the buildup of Thule Air Base. I have other slides, and I sold some good ones of helicopters and planes. I wish I still had those. There's a chance I have them on a memory card somewhere. Anyway, I don't know the guys in the photos, but it shows what they dealt with working up there.

A cicada killer wasp struggling to take a cicada:

An eastern pondhawk. There have been more dragonflies since the purple martins have moved on for the Summer:

A hump-backed beewolf:

An ivory-marked borer. These things have ridiculous lifespans of 10-40 years, most of which are in its larval stage:

A two-marked treehopper. This thing might as well be a dinosaur:

Stout, you picked a clinger bird. They are hilarious, but can be a real PITA for attention. They are also very good at figuring out how to disassemble cages and things.
