Same here. I find photographing the little stuff just as interesting as the astrophotography; the camera can see things you can’t see. It’s like looking at a different world.

Some more cool backyard nature pics

I also like to take nature videos and then find the best moments. That’s how I got the pics of this epic battle.

One of my favorite birds, a Tree Swallow. It and its mate successfully fledged their full brood earlier this Summer.

Back in the Spring a pair of Robbins nested under the overhang of my shed on a light. That's the female and her four babies. I know three successfully fledged, not sure about the fourth. Tricky one to get a good pic of. She was ornery and it was a dark little spot for the nest.

I have a bunch of good ones of her and the male plucking worms that I need to go through.

That one reminds me of this one. It is some kind of katydid, I forget the name.

Those long antennae make it hard to get a really good, clear shot.

It is. I put up Purple Martin gourds and Bluebird houses every year. The Tree Swallows use the Bluebird houses, too.

I like taking photos of small insects and such because it forces you to slow down and actually look at what is around you. You'd be amazed, once you've slowed down, how your eyes can pick up the slightest of movements. Once you see it, then there's the challenge of getting a decent pic of it.

We also have no idea/comprehension how many eyes are on us once we walk out of our doors.

i totally agree with this...i find that it helps a lot with anxiety as well...i also have a lot more patience (not so much when i'm driving )

I've seen a bunch of dragonflies the past few days, but I just don't have many good landing spots for them. When they're around they are feeding, and there isn't much sitting.

ETA: the Purple Martins don't help. Dragonflies are their favorite food.

100% this.

I've been trying to get a decent shot of this one for a while now. It is the red-headed bush cricket, or the handsome trig (because people say it is the "prettiest" cricket). It is fast and skittish. Finally got a decent shot this evening.

wow, you really have a great variety of insects...there's a pond on my property, so i get decent dragonfly traffic...still waiting on the roseate skimmers, they're a favorite of mine...

this year there have been 3 clutches of red bellied woodpeckers in one of the pecan trees, and i've managed to get some good shots of the parents, but i keep missing the fledglings...dissappointing...
