Here's a pic of the momma robin from the baby/nest pic I posted earlier in the thread. She was busy for a while.

Ohhh, nice! I haven't had more than a few robins for quite some time...noticeably fewer than in the past

These guys have had 3 clutches this, so they've been busy, too!

Shift change

A juvenile from previous clutch about to be evicted from the tree by mama

Also, a sora and black bellied whistling duck at the pond

Here's a bad pic of a cool wasp from today. Phone pic, and that dude was moving!

Rusty spider wasp with some kind of wolf spider. I think there is a wasp for everything.

It almost looks like a bad photoshop, but isn't. Here's another of it.

It is some kind of katydid, I forget the name.
Supposedly this is one also This is a couple years old and was taken in Oaxaca, Mexico at the airport as I was doing my preflight inspection. It was big, at least 3-4 inches long. Incredible camouflage, it’s even got the small lines that leaves have.

They're hard to spot, for sure. I spotted this one last week. It was on the perfect color leaf for blending in.

Then saw this young grasshopper not far from it.

St Elmos fire while climbing out in an area of heavy thunderstorms. It was actually a smooth ride. This is a screen grab from a video I took because it's almost impossible to grab a still image of the static discharges. Can't see it in the picture but the cockpit was glowing from the static electricity.

The edges of the windows glow in a weird way when you're flying through an area like this. I love it.

If I can remember after it's all done, I might make a thread showing the progress and report my results.

Please do.

What I think is a red-footed cannibal fly from today. This dude was aggressive, trying to run wasps and everything off. Well, it was aggresive or just trying to eat.

I took this a year ago at Yellowstone and while I'm generally against taking pictures of strangers, I thought that this was a cool, sweet moment. I really love this picture.

Here are a few of the bugs I've gotten recently.

This red-headed bush cricket just crawled up on a planter beside my porch chair. Funny, because I have tried to get a good pic of one for a while now, and this one just came to me.

A drab brown wave moth. Kind of artsy with the rain drop.

A hackberry emperor butterfly. These can annoy you if they take an interest in you and the area you're in.

And this a-hole, a fine-backed red paper wasp. They don't bother you when they're rambling around by themselves. It is when you dick with a nest that they turn into demons.

Wasps and hornets are so trippy to look at close up. Wild looking creatures.

They're great examples of purpose-built creatures. Nothing is wasted and it is all maximized to the fullest. Read up on their eyes sometimes when you're bored. Interesting stuff.

Two more of that wasp. The main reason I tried to get some good ones of it was because it was so red. The pics almost look oversaturated, but they aren't. The thing was much more red than the more orange tint you usually see.

This last guy, a checkered skipper, is very tiny...its wings aren't much bigger than my thumbnail...and the way its proboscis is curled up was pretty cute

Ha....I almost just posted a failed shot of one of a similar size....an Eastern tailed-blue, I think. The shot wasn't great and I never touched it up. Little thing fluttering around clover. When it finally landed it was in shadow and farther away than I wanted.

I'm surprised you got a shot of that damn wren with its mouth closed. Haha
