Midland has to be an upgrade over Cenla. I didn't realize Midland was that big of a city.

Since you currently live in Cenla, you'll probably be able to make do. I just couldn't get over the feeling of disconnectedness and desolation of living in the West Texas region.

It's a ridiculously hard adjustment to make from La to west Texas. I travel across West Texas a lot and desolation is the right word. Harsh, difficult place.

I live in a city 40 miles east of Midland. The Midland-Odessa area is growing, with Midland perhaps a bit larger at app. 170-180,000. It is pretty friendly for a town of that size, schools seem to be okay, with both public and private available.

There is a busy stretch on West Loop 250, and the traffic between Midland and Odessa can be a bit challenging at times. Plenty of restaurants and various entertainment centers and Odessa is just 20-25 miles West of it.

Better check in with Skinny Pat if you're headed to Midland.

Made about 10 trips there a couple of years ago for business. Due to the Permian Basin oil boom the place is booming. Housing is in high demand.

From what I saw, the north side of the city is newer. I would definitely look on Zillow for houses and check pricing and availability before making a decision.

To add on my previous post. I went from BR with some of the softest water in the nation to midland with some of the hardest water in the nation.

Bottled water is your friend…..for everything there

It is very dry. My sinuses were messed up making the transposition and my looked like a week after a bad sunburn with the cracking and flaking.

Was the two days before the big Texas freeze where I. Went below zero for a few days and was there when the daily highs were 110+.

Is the job with an o&g operator? If so you'll be taken care of, but be mindful when (not if) oil hits 20/bbl all of it dries up.

Where in CENLA? I'm from Bunkie, and outside of my family I would have zero reason to live there again.

They've be working really hard at improving schools, parks, and other amenities to attract more talent out there.

If it's a big improvement from your current situation I say go for it.

The mountains of Ruidoso or Big Bend are only a few hours away, and can offer a break from the flatness and heat during the long summer months.

I worked there for a year. Majority of the women were fat, Mexican lezbos. City is miserable, IMO. Ho-dessa is even worse.

I lived there for about three years. I moved from East Texas and was in the oil bidness. I hated it at first. First look was in November. I drove in from I20. I noticed the city must have decorated all the now leafless mesquite trees with Walmart bags with some cardboard spread on the ground (kidding). The second year there I took up hunting. And it can be a hunters paradise in its' own way. My wife and kids made connections and learned to like it. Been a while since I've been so if it is nice as you describe, all the oil money has allowed them to fix up the place. You can travel to the New Mexico mountains, Davis Mountains and to the east to the Hill Country if you need to get away. In fact for a time, there were a fair number of people who flew out on Friday evening and came back Sunday late.
But I was glad when I moved.
When you move, post some pics to the OT Board and let us know if the buildings with asbestos ever got cleaned or demolished.
Eat at the Wall Street Grill if it is still there. And you can get good Mexican food there.

There's a reason companies pay people a lot of money to move to Midland, you aren't the first.

That being said money talks and bullshite walks, take the job if it's a life changer.

I have several friends who have made the move.

Hope you like it because there isn’t much within an easy drive from there. But if you get a weekend away, you can get to New Mexico.

Costs of living is very low. If you aren’t looking for amazing night life, it’s probably not too bad.

You can probably get away with a low key lifestyle and put away a lot of cash there.

Midland is tough. Some can thrive out there but not all. Not for me.

I’d tell you how bad midland is but you’re probably used to it living in CENLA.

There’s a reason they have to pay people so much to move there.
