Republican Rep. Diane Black of Tennessee suggested that the wide availability of pornography and deterioration of family values were the leading causes for increasing gun violence.

"Pornography," she said.

"It’s available on the shelf when you walk in the grocery store."

Huh?

I bet that old hag has never seen a real porno.

If that were the case, I would have done a ton of damage a long time ago.

I have thrown my share of rope to porn in the past, just made me hornier or sleepy in the end.

I dont completely disagree. Wouldnt single out porn though. shite on the internet in general and loss of cohesive traditional family stuff absolutely has a role.

No matter how you feel about porn, connecting it to increased gun violence is a stretch.

Every single mass shooter likely watched porn

So there is a connection

Blaming porn is as lazy as blaming guns.

This ain’t the 80s bitch. The morality police are about 1000 times more likely to be Democrats these days. Progressives are The New Puritans , moral nannies running around demanding less Free Speech and rioting if a Conservative walks on their campus.

It's a dumb connection, but the title doesn't do a good job reflecting what she said. It's HuffPo not characterizing things very well for shock value.

I listened to the audio because I suspected it was something stupid. The lady is asked about shootings and leads with a response about being desensitized due to movies and the internet, particularly violent content. She talks about how she can't watch some of the stuff available, etc. She throws in a 10 second thing about pornography but it's very obviously not the emphasis of her answer.

She actually doesn't sound particularly unreasonable at all.

I didn't see that. She must have not been grocery shopping since the mid 90s.

Did they use to sell playboy in stores? If so, was it with the rest of the magazines?

Playing devil's advocate and with the full admission I'm not blaming porn for school shootings, I can see how desensitization to all "extreme" things, violence, sex, etc. could embolden these often socially awkward, sometimes ill, kids to desire grandiose exits to their existence.

Yeah, it just has a black sheet in the plastic holder to block the front cover.

This. There's a balance between having principles/morals and being a Puritanical fire and brimstone-er.
