All of that is true but oil and gas in LA are lobbyists for some of the most corrupt politicians ever in the states government.

So its a dumpster fire in both LA and MS

Didn’t I read somewhere that at one time in US history, Tupelo and Jackson were the richest cities per capita at one point? Then the south lost the war and the 13th amendment happened.

No, that was Natchez. More millionaires in 1850 than anywhere else in the country.

Don’t matter once wife and I retire.

Sure I could find someone willing to hire me to run a tractor or something out that way.

Peter rode around with Booker T

Booker is a cool muthafukka. Had a opinions I didn't agree with but other than that I'd like to share a beer with him.

Definitely an exception for the area.

It was the only decent episode from Peter's MS series.

To me, it literally seems that Mississippi has nothing. I can't think of anything there that they have going on for them. The beaches there aren't quite yet like the ones east of it starting east of Mobile. Not any industry besides a Chevron pascagoula plant.

Some of the major employers in Mississippi are:

Ingalls Shipbuilding
Stennis Space Center
Nissan
Toyota
Milwaukee
Sanderson Farms (largest in the state, 14k employees)
Viking
Yokohama
Continental

The casino industry both along the Coast and along the river also employ a lot of people, collectively.

I lived and worked in Cleveland, MS for 2 years. Some of the best times of my life. Now there is not shite there, and I know since I was there, 2005-2006, that the area has taken some what of a hit. My FIL is from there and has a camp there, I was back last summer. The delta is a great place to visit and stay for a short time.

don't understand why people live down there unless they have employment in something nearby. It's not exactly a convenient place to live and there aren't a ton of jobs other than those surrounding fishing, shipping, and mining (is there any mining left?).

It's why it's depopulating.
Louisiana's "delta" parishes are pretty similar. Tenses, East Carroll, West Carrol, and Madison parishes are some of the poorest as well. There's nothing there except Agriculture and and some service industries. What industries were there have been destroyed by NAFTA.
