My cat will stand at the window and act like he’s a lion but when I let him out he’s scared of everything. He’s a pussy in more ways than one. If he was in the wild Darwin would have claimed him.

Keep trapping and keep killing.

Anyone who is caught allowing them to breed unchecked should have the cats taken and face penalties.

Exactly who is responsible for these feral cats that are destroying the world? Who should we arrest?

Let's get a head on a pike!

Are you asking me to explain statistics?

Only if you know the answer. I’m not looking for argument here, just wondering how they come up with their numbers?

I understand the concept of observing making estimates based on a sample size but I don’t get how they have any idea of how many cats are running around. It’d be hard enough to get any sort of accurate number of cat owners, much less figure out how many of those cats go outside. And if the ones who go outside, how many live in bird-rich areas. And then how many feral cats are out there.

You could start with the a-hole down the road from me. We didn't have a cat problem until his lazy, fat arse showed up with a couple cats. They've had five litters that I have counted. They all run wild. The lady behind them trapped 14 in a month and a half. Green britches hauled them off for her. Hopefully they killed every one of them.

In the U.S. alone, housecats kill more than 2 billion birds each year

1.5 birds killed every single day for every square mile in the US. And Alaska represents almost 20% of the US.

Seems suspect.

Cats decimate local bird and reptile life. This is why New Zealand exterminated them except in homes.

Which are certainly way over estimated.

Take the observed number of kills and multiply it by the total number of cats in the U.S.

How is the cat population determined? They breed early and often. Is there an official Cat Counter whose job it is to count every cat in the U.S.?

The most effective solution is trap, vaccinate, spay/neuter, and release.

They'll claim a territory and keep other cats away. Trap and kill just means they get replaced by another feral cat.

This is true. I volunteer with a group that does exactly this. It’s very effective.

Anyone who doubts that America has a feral cat problem needs to walk about their neighborhood with a flashlight. Point in any direction around you and you’re likely to see the light being reflected back from cats’ eyes. It can be spooky how many you see.

By that “logic” so is every cow, horse, honeybee, sheep, pig; all wheat, sugarcane, apples, bananas, coffee, rice….

I’m not saying they aren’t. That’s how species have always spread.

And species need to be kept in check if they are destroying their environment.
