I did the math and would have to make 460k a year there to maintain the same standard of living I have in Louisiana

Good luck

Enjoy your low-paying blue-collar job while you train your poor kid to be a racist in bum-frick-nowhere.

The Bay Area is one of the most beautiful places in the country.

In addition you are a short drive from wine country, Yosemite, Tahoe and countless other great places to spend a day or weekend.

California gets a bad rap here, mostly from people who have never been.

I lived in LA for 3 years and spent a lot of time in the Bay Area.

As a fairly conservative southerner, I was very apprehensive about moving there.

But it was great. Yes there are tons of hippies, liberals and even gays. But despite all the stereotypes, people there were really cool and not once was anyone in my face pushing their politics or alternative lifestyle.

The vast majority of folks out there have a live and let live attitude. I'd move back in a second of the opportunity was right.

Thanks for the info. Question, living on east bay in say, Walnut Creek, how long would the commute really be? Basically how bad does 580 and 880 traffic really get?

Thoughts on Alameda Island?

Is there any area of Oakland that you recommend? Young professional, love good drinks and food. Could live in a house in a nice neighborhood or a high rise. Not overly picky.

I'm betting you're the bread winner making $38k a year in shitville, USA.

California is a great place, but way too expensive to live in. Taxes are just brutal.

So-called Godly man yet you're the most vile, hateful, ugly person in the thread.

If you wanna get robbed.

Real estate is stupid out there, but good luck

You've got just as good of a chance of being robbed in SF as you do in Oakland. Crime is through the roof out there.

Walnut Creek to San Leandro would be painful. Although depending on your office location, you could take BART. 680S and 580 W are a shite show in the morning.

You could probably live in San Mateo, Foster City, Castro Valley. Or even go to Halfmoon Bay and take 92 over and across the bay.

Alameda is nice and lots of nice areas in Oakland (Piedmont, Rockridge, Claremont, Temascal, Adams Point, Lake Merritt, Lincoln Highlands to name a few)

It's like you're a cartoon version of the stereotypes that people have of southerners lol

awesome info. I'm really liking Alameda. 15 minutes to work, 20 minutes to SF by ferry. Seems to have a "small town feel", or so they say online.

Yeah it's amazing everyone wants to live there when they could move to a heavenly place like Louisiana for so cheap.
