Outside of searching on Craigslist and Zillow, how would one go about finding a place to rent there?

Prices are similar to that on SF which I would like to try to keep under.

There is nothing affordable in Alameda unless you want to live in someone's garage.

Try Livermore, CA. More affordable and a lot of stuff out there. Its SE of Oakland.

Standard of living is more than how many bedrooms are in your slab McMansion.

I grew up in Livermore. It was easy to get to San Francisco, Palo Alto, Berkeley or even Santa Cruz to go see live music any night of the week. It was also easy to get to the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta for boating and the Sierra Nevada foothills for camping.

Sounds awesome. You don't miss it? I love how often you can be outside and comfortable out there. Granted, SF is a little chillier than other parts.

I co-founded the LSU Alumni chapter out here :)

Being very well run!! Good game watching parties in SF and an annual crawfish boil in May.

It's also a great way to meet people and network.

San Leandro is a nice bedroom community.

You need to tell us how much you will make.
Are you married?

poster is fantasizing again

SF has a neighborhood that is famous for gay lifestyle.

I doubt its even 10% of SF and its much less in all the other cities.
there are 6 million people in the SF bay 6 counties.
You may never even go to some of the counties.

It looks like a bat at night from space.

The coldest Winter I ever knew was the Summer I lived in San Francisco.

Yes and no. One of the problems with growing up in the suburbs is that you go away to college, and moving back upon graduation just isn't in the cards. So there are very few people I hung out with growing up who live there anymore. I actually returned to the Bay Area, but I chose to live in San Francisco, where I worked at the time.

Most of the weirder genres of internet porn are produced in San Francisco.

I looked around Livermore, and outside of a little more square footage, It's hard to justify going there instead of Alameda or Oakland.

2k for 650 sq ft and see SF >> 2k for 800 sq ft and be 45 miles from SF

Unless I'm interpreting this wrong, that's how I feel.

I don't understand why my salary should be discussed. Not married, young with no children. I like to be outside when the sun is shining doing anything, and I like to eat good food and drink good beer.

Your salary should be discussed because if it is less than 150k plan to live in Tenderloin, with roommates, or in the burbs.

Have you not read the thread? I'll be working in San Leandro, so by default I'll be living in the burbs anyway.
