Maybe they check the dogs’ age at the entrance. 3 in dog years = 21 in human years. Would mean ole Shipley’s good to go to play some blackjack.

Although I didn’t take mine to non-per venues, I have no issues with well behaved dogs in public. It’s cool to see them chilling on a restaurant or bar patio. They are quieter than young kids.

Plenty dog people on this thread swearing up and down their dogs sits under a table silently, never moving, barking or pissing. While I'm sure thats truthful thats never what I see.
Ive see multiple dogs off leash roaming the brewery we frequent shoving their snout into other guests trying to enjoy the afternoon and the owner not giving a frick or finding it cute that they're "making friends" I've seen one of those dogs life leg and piss on the same brewery turf area where people play cornhole and sit....yea sure no big. Think most infuriating was a couple who brought 2 huge German Shepard to sit at a coffee shop that was in a shopping strip w an ice cream store and opened to a small park. They would lung, bark and snarl at everyone passing by kids included one of which looked like they were about to cry. The owners just went on enjoying their coffee occasionally playfully telling the dogs to stop being sassy.
If you find any of these behaviors remotely acceptable to subject other people too then youre the reason threads like this exist and noone likes dog people these days

I agree. I would rather not be by people either.

Absolutely not. Well behaved to me is laying by the table and quiet and bombproof to reactions. That would be a well-trained dog. If they are chaotic or pottying on or in the venue or reactive in anyway, the mgmt should make them leave. I didn’t take my dogs places that are not pet venue places and never to a bar/restaurant/patio. 1. Because they’d be excited to meet people and I don’t want to be a pest. 2, They are strong breeds and I won’t put them at risk of being at fault if anything should happen, even if they are not at fault. Some breeds are not supposed to be happy and people friendly like goldens.
Interesting, though. When visiting Costa Rica, in some of the restaurants, a dog (and cat) would wander in quietly and just sit at the bar. Eat, visit and leave. They weren’t wild and were taken care of by the community. So different than here.

You seem like a really great, responsible dog owner. Hate it that most dog owners in 2026 suck and give yall a shite name, but they do. All of the behavior I described above is seen pretty frequently and apparently is supposed to be accepted. Thats not even mentioning the shite behavior around my neighborhood

Agree with you.
I was blessed with great dogs. Working line German and Czech shepherds. Male was bombproof. And life long personal protection trained. Nobody knew bc he was level headed and non-reactive. But I knew what he was capable of. My female was great. And as a shepherd should be, indifferent to strangers and sometimes dog reactive to strange dogs. At the schutzhund field I had to keep her away from strange dogs. Those she knew or pets we had and introduced properly, she was fine. On more than one occasion taking walks, I had to get in between her and a loose dog running up to us, thankful she was well trained. Bc people would let their dogs roam. So we stopped taking walks. I get it. And as good as they were, I’d never put them in a bad spot. My dogs today … some would likely be the pests and one possibly not care for strangers. My dogs only need to like and listen to me and

I don’t take her anywhere she isn’t explicitly allowed. The workers in Lowe’s literally all carry treats in their pockets for gods sake lol

Yeah we bring our GR around a lot and he’s 100%
And I’ve never seen dogs off leash. That’s a mortal sin.
Let me be clear - your dog should not be bothering anyone anytime, at all.

The folks that drive with the window down and a dog on their lap are an accident looking for a place to happen.
