I know those guys need to know how to drive anywhere and everywhere, but that seems like a poor location to be riding around with the tech switched off.

IIRC, I think Atlanta does have a 6th. It might be used by the international flights.

Not sure what audio you heard. I heard one with helo calling seperation.

I’m late to the thread and this might have been discussed already. But I really don’t understand who approved a helo flight path that dissects a landing/departure lane of an international airport.

Plane crashes like this are so spooky. I can’t help but wonder if the people on board became aware/terrified at least for a moment or died instantly with no awareness. Hopefully instantly
For those that may know, what would be the exact cause of death for those that died instantly?…. Fire?

GuyOn Fox is saying that the (idr what he called it exactly) flight avoidance system doesn’t work below 1000 ft — or maybe it automatically disengages.
Why?????

Just 5; typically 2 departure runways and 3 arrival, unless you want to land on the taxiway like Delta did back in 2009, then you could say ATL has 6!.

No shite. He's trying to claim the chopper pilot mistook a plane taking off from the other end of the airport as his bogie.
The plane taking off was more than a mile to the right of the to the right of the Blackhawk. You have to be an idiot to think atc is telling you to stay behind a plane a mile to your right and heading away from you when you have traffic on approach ahead of you and to your left.
Another big issue is atc giving the Blackhawk instructions and not noticing he’s above 200.

Blunt force impact into the water at 150+ mph from 300 ft

Hegseth just said that even though it was a training flight, the crew was experienced. It was a routine training flight, not the training of a new guy.
Weird situation all around.

Wasn't that an American figure skater?

that's the mode that changes, they could still see traffic on the scope but the TCAS would not trigger a resolution advisory(issue an avoidance command)
Posted on 1/30/25 at 8:48 am to mylsuhat
My guess - trying to evade would probably stall/ crash the plane. They can't really do anything except land or start pouring on the power, which takes time, before they could maneuver anyway, right?

I imagine chopper blades played a role if it tried to turn at the last moment.

For those onboard, I only hope to God their bodies went into shock with the initial collision and lost consciousness on the decent before BFT killed them on impact...

Thanks. I wasn't entirely sure that there was a 6th.
