We pierced my daughter's ears at 6 weeks. She never flinched and it was an easy process. And I say "We" lightly. My wife claimed she was too "nervous" to watch so she sent me to do it while she was shopping in another store next door. It was easy peasy and now it drives my wife nuts everytime my daughter talks about earrings and I get to tell the story how Daddy was a hero and mom was "scared". Daddy's Girl all the way!

Did she take them to one of those shitty mall places to get them done? That's a common theme with those places. If you take them to a good tattoo parlor or if you know a pediatrician that does it with a good needle instead of smacking a blunt device through the ears, you usually don't have the infection issue if you keep them clean.

My daughter is 9 months, I don't mind her getting them now if my wife wanted, but she wants to wait until my daughter can attempt to keep them clean on her own so she knows how to take care of her ears. My mom has been harassing my wife to let her take my daughter though so she can give my daughter some diamond earrings like she has been giving her other granddaughters for their first birthday.

I will wait until she knows what's going on and believe those parents who do it when their kids have no idea wtf is happening are creating more work for themselves since they have to clean it and it's just cruel....... And they're redneck trash.

If I have a daughter she's not getting hers pierced until she is older. Let it be something she can look forward to and has to earn(good grades, behavior, etc). I got mine pierced at 5 and my ear swelled up, turned bright red and looked like it swallowed my earring. Very painful and had to let holes close up and wait several years before I could get them repierced again.
I realize in some cultures earrings on a baby are no big deal. I just personally think it just looks really tacky. But that's the beauty of personal opinion....it doesn't have to be what everyone else thinks. Do what you want.....just make sure they keep the ears cleaned if you do get them pierced young so what happened to me doesn't happen to your child.

Someone's fussy this morning. Yes, I believe discussing the issue with the girl who will be having it done to her body is important, rather than a parent doing it as a simple fashion statement. We're not talking feeding, bathing, diaper changing, childcare, doctors visits, shots, and other necessities for human life. We're talking a fashion statement. If I'm viewed as awful in your eyes then I view that as a win. BTW dipshite, go re-read the Deandre Johnson post on MSB board.

There is no reason a baby needs earrings except to please the mother's need to bling out her baby and dress her up and show off to others.
You can still dress them up all cute without giving them a potential source of infection.

People have differing opinions, but I think it's trashy when I see it.
My wife who is a peds nurse comments that 90% of children under 2 with earrings are on medicaid, so take that for what it's worth.
