You may be remembering incorrectly. I lived in Slidell pre Katrina and had season passes for 03, 04 and 05.

You could go, ride every ride and be back in your car in 2 hours.

That would be cool plus those pics remind me of the Carnival map on CoD Modern Warfare 2.

IIRC, Mitch turned down several legit offers a couple of years ago because he thought they weren't enough. He did that multiple times throughout his tenure.

Every time I've passed by, there are always work trucks. I assumed they were very slowly scrapping metal and parting out the decent stuff

Use as film shoot location (2011–present)

An image taken during the filming of Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters at the park
In 2011, Killer Joe was filmed in the park featuring the wooden coaster Mega Zeph. Stolen was also filmed at the park that year. Stolen used the Main Street Square section to double as the Quarter. Additionally, a burning car was driven into the lagoon and the Orpheum Theatre was used as the home of the film's villain.[24]

The Industrial Development Board (IDB) agreed to let 20th Century Fox film the 2013 film Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters in the theme park during the summer of 2012 through August.[25] Mega Zeph, Ozarka Splash and The Big Easy are three rides that have been shot for the film along with five other rides that the production crew had brought into the park, since all the original rides were rendered inoperable to shoot for the film. Before shooting at the park for five weeks, the production crew took two weeks to restore the derelict park into the needed condition by installing lighting and covering up graffiti on the buildings. The park portrays the fictional Circeland on the island of Polyphemus that was built by the goddess Circe, only to be destroyed by the cyclops Polyphemus.[26]

During the summer of 2013, portions of the park were being filmed for the movie Dawn of the Planet of the Apes until mid-August. The park was also used to film portions of the movie Jurassic World in June 2014.[27]

Jurassic World used the parking lot as the location for the Jurassic World park.[23] Deepwater Horizon built its oil rig set in the parking lot.[28][29][30][31][32][33]

Deepwater Horizon was the last film to use the parking lot. No movie studio has signed up to use the park for filming since August 2015.

That satellite shot is interesting.

You can see how grown over the Eastover golf course is, but you can still make out the layout and the cart paths.

creepiest is the carnival place in Russia, where nuclear accident happened.

COD Modern Warfare did a good job of showing you how creepy it was during the campaign. Like Everyone just vanished from an area, and left everything they owned.

Someone should buy the place, leave it as-is, and turn it into a paintball arena.

That would be an epic paintball place.

Technically, the Economic Development Board owns the land, but that's just a city board basically, and under Landrieu, a deal was made that the city would control the fate of what would happen with the area. And of course, nothing has happened. Also, the Economic Development Board was set to run out of a surplus of money for maintenance and security of the area this year, so I'm curious as to what the plan is there.

Every time I pass by here, which is several times a week, I get pissed off.

Tear the shite down, clean it up, and late nature reclaim itself.

There have been some people who have discussed rebuilding/reopening it, but they basically want the entire facility for free, and intend upon borrowing just about all the money needed. Yet, they can't seem to produce any banks willing to go along with it.
