I have an oil painting on canvas that was given to me. It’s an historical painting that was exhibited in a southern art museum in the 1950s — a political piece showing two black boys shining the shoes of white businessmen. It was in my dining room until we had a party and my wife’s black coworkers told us that we should probably take it down before any white morons saw it and overreacted.

I mean the act of washing another's feet is biblically symbolic but I don't think that's the application here. If it were, the black folks would also swap places and wash the white folks feet as a symbol of humility and service toward your fellow man.

Pretty sure everyone referred to in the Bible was black based on geography. Not that it matters or anything. Pretty sure Jesus washed the feet of the poor as a symbol that all men were equal - but whatever.
