We lost our dog a few months back after 13 years, he died at home and I was confused about what to do with him.
We ended up burying him in the backyard, I just couldn’t have him cremated.
Like you said, they probably throw 4-5 at a time then give you a box of ashes for $300.00.

I believe it is your pet. If the word got out that they were doing that, the business would close down immediately.

How deep do you bury a pet to keep the raccoons and vermin from digging it up?
Put some lime on it then a pile of rocks as a headstone, we bought some white ones in a sack at Home Depot.

Get some DNA, Tom Brady will clone your dog for you.

I dug a couple of feet, laid them in it, covered with some dirt. Then a couple of layers of bricks on top. Then a big planter pot on top that served as a memorial and security for the body.

The OT never ceases to amaze me with their cynicism especially with pets.

Hell, I've wondered this very thing about humans.

I bury mine. Why are you spending money doing this?
Exactly
I feel the same about people who pay a vet to put their pet down when it is time.

Not sure what’s in the urn, but they sent a casting of his paw print. Teared up a bit seeing it today. RIP Ollie.

the ashes of one body are nearly identical to that of another…all the ashes are is calcium compounds from the bones plus minerals and salts. Hair, soft tissue, etc are completely consumed. DNA is destroyed along with everything else.
I’m not naive enough to believe that the two boxes of ashes we keep are my actual pets, they are only a reminder of them. We did keep vials of hair just in case…

I dug through my dog's box of ashes and found his gold tooth, so I know it's his ashes.
Did it still look like a tooth?

I just burn mine in the fire pit. Neighbors complain but it’s not like it happens often.

I loved my dog as much as anybody here but I wouldn’t have ever dreamed of paying to have him cremated, I dug a hole in the yard, buried him, and planted an olive tree on top of him

People don't just chunk them in the ground in the backyard anymore?
Posted on 11/22/25 at 8:57 pm to STigers
get a shovel. 15 year later you can spot is by that tree

Wife and I have had several pets cremated. Though we loved them all, my favorite was my first lab, a chocolate named Bubba Ray.
My daughters have been instructed that I'm to be cremated when I die, and they're to take me and Bubba Ray's ashes to Colorado and spread them somewhere in The Rockies.
Me, my wife, and youngest daughter had one of our best vacations ever in Colorado. My hope is that my girls and their families will return and have a similar great trip, outside of stopping briefly to spread the ashes. Even then, I hope the family will have and share some nice memories about Dad / Paw-Paw. (Oldest daughter was married, working, with she and her husband not being able to get off work for the trip.)
