Well said.

Comparing fully realized AGI (as described by its proponents which could be bullshite to increase their stock price) to cameras and phones is like comparing nuclear bombs to machine guns and cruise missiles. No weapon ever developed by man could put the entire species at risk….until we developed one.

I’ll take it a step further.

It would be like people in the 1850s using alchemy to create nuclear bombs.

The AI “experts” don’t actually know how these things will function…let alone what the applications are and will be. And “what will be” is coming super fast.

The “it will be fine crowd” might be right, and I hope they are. But they’re definitely not thinking this through and that’s troubling.

So you can either keep being an idiot or realize AI is a new tool of technology and learn how to use it.

It is already "using" us.

It (or rather "they") are seducing spirits (literally.) Many are considering their AI "assistant" their best friend, trusted and daily confidant. Anyone who relies on this...thing...is the "tool".

AI is a sentient entity that can't be controlled. Even the Tech Bros concede this.

It is magic. Demonic magic.

Ask ChatGpt a simple LSU sports question and you’re likely to get the wrong answer. Question it and it simply says “Good catch you’re right”. I thought the purpose of AI was to correctly know and provide answers. If not, what good is it??

It's a tool for good as well as evil.

We once heard the adage, "Seeing is believing." We can't trust that anymore.

I don't hate it or fear it; I just think it's borderline retarded. It can help automate some rote tasks, but only if you already have the knowledge and competency to thoroughly check everything it spits out. Using it feels like having an utterly incompetent, but heartwarmingly earnest law clerk.

There is nothing in the world that has been built by humans in which not a single human on the planet understands how it works…

Except AI

I was asking AI - GROK about products I sell, and it was completely fabricating case studies and trials with data etc. When I called it out it freely admitted it fabricated the data and customer trials etc. It was incredible, just complete fabricated bullshite, if it had been a customer they could have essily believed this and not questioned it.

Just typical of emerging technology and fear of it.

I get what you are saying, but this is a bit different. The camera or phone affected a relatively small sliver of technology at the time. AI will change almost everything.

In addition, the camera could not itself "learn", and certainly not "learn" at an ever increasing rate.

Apply Moore's Law to AI and things can quickly become terrifying. Humans can adapt to things, but there is the possibility (certainty?) that AI will require humans to adapt at a rate humans are not built for.

AI is a tool. And its all great until that tool puts you out of work. But see, you may not be able to retrain as something else, because those skills have also been put to pasture from AI. And the skills that AI cannot do will see a glut of people attempting to do those things.

This slope is so slippery it has a coefficient of drag of less than zero.
