Depends on where you go.
If I'm going to the beach, yeah, it's too relax.
If I'm going somewhere I've never been, I want to see the sights and do things I'll likely never get to do again. So yeah, it might not be as relaxing but it will be memories I won't get to experience again for the most part.
Disney is definitely not a relaxing vacation and neither is Europe with all the sightseeing.
I do hate taking vacations and needing a vacation to recover so yes I do like relaxing vacations. For the most part, if you find days to stay busy and then take a day or two and relax it can be rewarding either way.

I go to move around and check out everything. But I always schedule a gap day at the end to sit my arse at home and not give a damn about a single thing after.

I travel nationally and internationally. I'm gone so often that vacation to me is go someplace and just relax, enjoy the surroundings and just not work. When I retire I'm sure I'll want to do things, but for now, I just want to chill.

Not a fan of this approach , since then you need a vacation *after* your vacation.
As others in the thread have mentioned, and maybe you learn this with age- but the absolute key is to have an extra day or two off after your vacation.. if that’s the case, then yeah i’m all about exploring and adventure.. still, i would never voluntarily set an alarm clock while on vacation.

I go on vacation to sleep past 5 a.m. and relax. I love visiting new places, but if it requires exertion, I usually don’t want to do it.
Then I have good news for you. You will never visit ancient Rome, or the Louvre in Paris, or walk around London, or see the Athens Acropolis, or the pyramids of Giza, or Machu Picchu.
Enjoy your hammock.

don't understand the point of going some place and just laying around all day
quote:Also same, unless it's our guy's trip. On those we basically just "party" the entire time, but those are just long weekends not week long trips (similar to beach trips).
I want to explore and experience as much as a possibly can during my time in a new place
I don't understand people who go sit on a beach for an entire week, that seems like a wasted vacation to me. I'll go for a long weekend though.

There are two types of travels:
1) Vacation - where you don't do shyt but sit on beach or in fishing boat drinking beer and eating food all day.
2) Trip - where you experience the culture, city, whatever and fill every minutes with active engagement.
I like them both but I alternate Vacationing and Trips during travels.

I like to combine them into the same trip at about a 3:1 ratio. For example, if it's a 10-day vacation, I'll spend the first 7-8 days seeing the sights and taking it all in. Then I'll spend the last 2-3 days kicking back and relaxing before heading home.

I go to relax now but I'm looking forward to our pool in 18 months or so and then I can get my R&R at home and get back to adventuring on vacays, mate

I’ve got two coworkers that are on completely opposite ends of the spectrum. One will never leave poolside sipping drinks. The other will spend every waking moment on a hike or skiing.
I’m somewhere in the middle. I can’t just sit around all day, but I also don’t want to be super active at all times.

Don't mean to hijack thread but, can someone recommend a good place for cajun food in Honolulu?

A vacation with a 2 or 3 year old is nothing but child wrangling. It's exhausting. Nap time and when they go to bed is the only vacation

It's almost as if people prefer different things. It's crazy!!
