1. Went to good schools so I could get job at the "prestigious" employer out of school.

2. Built resume at said employer in what was a shitty/difficult job.

3. Head hunters came calling and I got options for slightly less shitty job. Continued to build resume.

4. Head hunters came calling again and now I work at a job I really like.

I network, but networking has never gotten me a job.

Got it myself. Moved from a hospital to a healthcare consulting shop.

elaborate, you had a job because of LSU versus if you graduated SLU? Do people from Tulane have jobs that aren't given to LSUBAWS?

Seriously, depending on what someone is majoring in, it seems like more people should take this route. A buddy of mine went for two years right out of high school, made a connection through one of the guys who taught him and had a pretty good job right away.

Graduated college then applied for a bunch of jobs and someone actually decided to offer me one.

Was at BRCC finishing up an associates degree and preparing to finish my 4 year degree at LSU. Received a random message on FB from a friend that said he could put me to work now if I would rather that then LSU. I chose to go to work, been here 5 and 1/2 years and happy as can be.

yeah, the plant route is all about connections. I got in with a job I never even knew existed and would never have thought I was qualified for.....but a buddy of mine called and said he had an opening.

Massive need for trades right now, most private HS will not inform students of other options besides a 4 year degree. Plenty good paying job/career opportunities with an associates in a trade.

White privilege

Same here. The white privilege committee called me up and offered me the job. Didn't have to go to college, work my way up or anything. I fricking love being white.

I said "Happily employed"

If you like you job, how did you get it. Anyone can take one of those sales jobs that's commission only or door to door sales. They hire 100 people knowing 99 are going to quit.

I'm talking "great job"...how did you get it?

I made a name for myself working at a shitty company in a shitty industry. My current employer knew I would excel in a better situation, so they contacted me. I love my job.

This is true for contract gigs, not as true for OPS jobs as it used to be. Most are now requiring the PTECH degree. 10 years ago when i got on it was pretty much an after thought, but now a degree is damn near mandatory.

Never said it was, but save me the life experiences, finding yourself, expanding your horizon bullshite. You go to college for the opportunity to make a living when you graduate. Different strokes for different folks. You get out what you put in the experience of college. I went 2 years and it wasn't for me.
