A volunteer firefighter has been arrested for allegedly setting fires and then responding to them with his fire department, according to officials in eastern Pennsylvania.
Justin Sholly, a 29-year-old member of the Perseverance Volunteer Fire Company in Souderton, was arrested on Sunday on charges including arson, according to court documents.

Investigators used license plate reader databases to zero in on Sholly as a suspect, according to the criminal complaint.
Sholly admitted to setting all three fires, according to the court documents. After two of the blazes, Sholly went to his fire department and then responded back to the fire scenes with the other firefighters, documents said.

Must've had a real burning desire for firefighting.

It's not common but this isn't the first time I've heard of this happening. My guess is that he got greedy with it.

Not unusual for pyromaniacs to be involved in fire fighting and fire starting.
There have been multiple volunteer firemen busted starting fires so they can drive fast and use a hose.

Pyromania induced by firefighter arson, highlights where individuals join volunteer or professional departments driven by a pathological fascination with fire and a desire to be the "hero" who saves the day.

There were instances of a contracted crewmember out west setting fires to keep him and his coworkers busy through the summer. Those hot shot teams and smoke jumpers don't like sitting around for days on end hoping they are not going to be sent home early. This is summer job for a lot of them.

This happens ALOT especially in volunteer fire departments.
I have arrested 2 of these douche bags before and they both basically stated they wanted to be "the hero".

A quick google search:

The Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s Office has brought arson charges against a firefighter for setting a hurricane-damaged firehouse on fire. Jamison Smith, 18, is charged with simple arson for the fire that destroyed the Iowa Volunteer Fire Department’s former main station. The station was seriously damaged by Hurricane Laura in 2020. It was no longer in active use, but rather to store equipment. At the time of the fire the station also contained a reserve fire apparatus

A Lafourche Parish volunteer firefighter put out a fire at his grandparents' home with a garden hose, but was later arrested and accused of setting the fire himself, authorities said Tuesday. Louis Legendre Jr. admitted to investigators that he set fire to the home _ aware that his elderly grandparents were inside _ because ``he wanted to be a hero,''

A fourth Cotton Valley volunteer firefighter has been arrested in connection with what officials now believe was a string of small fires that sent other firefighters running to the scene to put them out. Cody Cox, 18, was arrested and charged with two counts of simple arson, said Cotton Valley Police Chief Terry Brown. ``We've had a string of recent fires in a period of about six months,'' Brown said.
