just found the rendering.... and still that is not a suspension bridge. So i laugh at those downvotse.

Thats cable stayed. And i would have to think it would have been designed for this construction case but maybe not.

Correct. And that construction phase would need to be considered in the design. Typically temporary supports are used. Somebody missed that plan sheet.

From reddit

quote:

In the construction industry...

Looks like the bridge was post-tension precast concrete. I wonder if the structural failure was during the tendon tightening process, where metal cables are slid into the structure then tightened, or if a worker was drilling and nailed a tighten tendon.

If it was a fast structural failure, I suspect the tendons failed first. If it was a concrete failure, the collapse would have been very slow, with slab sinking until until the tendons failed.

Prayers for the injured and family of those killed. Sad situation.

Also at least 5 deaths thus far.

I appreciate their professional perspective. We're all just trying to make sense of it.

well for it to span that distance those cables would have been post tensioned before it was lifted.

Not a big fan of the tunnel that goes under LAX either.

There is a tunnel under LAX? That’s crazy to me that we have the ability to build something that strong.

Just because they're gay doesn't mean they are automatically bad engineers.

If anything they should be great at it with all of the common terms sounding gay. Erection, penetration, mud bottom, etc.

If I was alive and trapped in one of those cars I would be terrified of a fire. I've seen a totalled car go up in flames from a electrical short right on the flat bed of a tow truck.
