The first thing I thought of when I saw the pickup truck was that guy is extremely lucky, then I thought about the car seat in my back seat and hoped there wasn't one in his back seat with a kid in it

I have worked with Barnhart a few times in the past. They will have no problems. They are big enough of a company to get through any litigation and this is certainly not the biggest accident they have been involved with.
Besides, it is highly unlikely that any of this will be their fault.

Well no shite it fell fast. But I'm saying I don't believe for one second that it instantly collapsed out of no where. It was supported by steel and other things. Something that big usually has multiple failures before the entire thing collapses. Maybe not in this case who knows.
If they dropped something from a crane, I have a hard time believing still it just dropped instantly. Who knows.

This shite just pisses me off.
We have construction on a lot of busy intersections in Tuscaloosa pretty much year round. (Save the Tuscaloosa jokes)
And here these dip shits try to throw up a bridge in a week in an effort to minimize traffic.
shite just should not happen in 2018 and I hope the families sue everybody for everything they’re worth.

yet they state the project wasn't going to be done until 2019
here in TN we had the 'fast fix 8' and they literally tore down & rebuilt 10 lane interstate bridges in 3 days over the course of 8 weekends. i drive over 2 of them every day going to & from work
they literally shut the interstate down friday night, completely tore it down, rebuilt it and were open for traffic again monday morning.

You have to take terms that the news uses lightly. This bridge, looking at the configuration, likely had some post tensioning in the bottom section. A lot of post tensioning systems go thru stress checks especially around erection to make certain that the stressing in the cables or rods are holding. They may have been checking the stresses. I saw a reference to a company by the name of BDI who is also involved. They are a firm that does that sort of work (testing).

My best guess (not an engineer) is that it wasn't something falling from the crane. It was probably something on the crane that FAILED, broke loose, reduced the support for the span and then all hell broke loose.

Also post tentioning is notorious for sudden failure. Google "precast concrete parking lot failure" and you will get a lot of results where the concrete failed suddenly due to botched casting or weak concrete that someone missed.
Honestly it looks like it failed about a quarter into the span on the side opposite the building, as the corner connecting the top chord is still visible.
If I had to guess it was sub-par concrete.
