Watch frightening footage when a passenger on board of American Airlines flight AAL1722 (Airbus A321), which departed LaGuardia last night en route to Charlotte. Shortly after takeoff, the plane suffered a bird strike, causing one of its jet engines to burst into flames. The flight was diverted and landed safely at JFK, where maintenance will inspect the aircraft. All 190 passengers and 6 crew members onboard were unharmed. The FAA has launched an investigation into the incident.

Birds aren’t real that was most likely a Chinese drone

What the hell is there to investigate?
Checking to see if the bird was tied to a terrorist group?

Maybe to see what the airport is or isn't doing to deter birds

Absolutely a drone. They’ve gone offensive.

The last time a flight from LaGuardia to Charlotte had a bird strike, we had the famous Miracle on the Hudson.

Maybe a dumb question but can this sort of thing be preventable or make something that protects the engines from birds?

every time an airport that has a bird problem tries to do something about they get flak/shut down by the tree huggers

you should see a film of the things they shoot through those engines when they're proving them, might be on YouTube

LGA? They're relying on their name and reputation to keep away birds.

Frightening footage
No, not frightening. It's not like the cowling blew off and peppered the cabin with bits of turbine blades.

Do we need to do DNA testing to figure out the particular species of bird?

Where was Indy's father at the time?

It's possible that nothing works at those speeds.

Your definition of not frightening and my definition is perhaps not the same. If I hear a racket from the engine just after takeoff and the silence when the pilots shut it down I'm not completely freaking out but I'm not exactly cool as a cucumber either.

there's a good chance you wouldn't even know if an engine has been shut down

I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often.
