How involved are city inspectors in this type of potentially gross negligence? Are their regular inspections of a project such as this?
That's out of my wheelhouse.

the meaningful inspections of a project like this will be done by the designing engineers. the municipal inspections are more general in nature (code compliance) are not intended to be arbiters of structural integrity

So you see beams buckling and you make a video for facebook and don't tell anyone in charge?
Posted on 10/16/19 at 1:11 pm to Capt ST
Should person who made video have sent that to someone besides papo?
What’s the process? Is there contact info posted on site to submit safety concerns including contacts independent from companies involved in the construction area?
This Person might have done this, so this is more of a hypothetical. Also not sure if anyone actually illegal but in general would illegals be less likely to report these kinds of issues up chain or to authorities even knowing they are going to continue going back to work in unsafe area?
It doesn’t seem like person had any doubts there were issues.

The video isn’t that great so maybe I missed it but I didn’t see any beams buckling. You do see a temp shore in pretty bad shape.
This picture just looks like someone left out some beams in between the main columns. It’s mind numbing to me how this building could get to the point it was at without anyone noticing/questioning this. I would be very interested to see the drawings for this building.
ETA: the quality of that picture is about the same has the Facebook video. The picture looks fine on my phone.

Several people were told of the buckling issues when they were removing the temporary braces. The workers were told to continue removing them.

the permit set is public record and can be found either on the city permitting portal or they have been posted on nola.com

Its a bad vid but you can definitely see bent supports all over.
Posted on 10/16/19 at 1:21 pm to NOLAGT
yes temporary shoring. saying a beam is bent is completely different than bent shoring. Neither is good but one of those beams being noticeably deformed would be another level.

Nola One Stop has everything including inspection pictures.
1031 Canal is the address to search

Where are you hearing this from? Just curious if this is rumor or from a real source.

It was noticeably from the street on Friday night because the floor was sagging. There is absolutely no way any of those workers who worked on Saturday morning didn't notice it either if they had looked up.

what are you talking about? this isn't even a "tall" structure for Nola. shitty planning/execution/materials have nothing to do with your "point"

You saw it from the street?
Those floors are like 10+ stories up, I seriously doubt anyone saw that from the street.

I’d love to see what concessions were made and what concessions were ignored by elected officials as part of the “agreement” that allowed this monstrosity to sail through
Scared of tall buildings?
This one isn't even that tall.

Gaspard said he’s been told workers had been removing the temporary posts, and “when they got to less and less of them, got more and more load on ‘em,” they tried to tell the contractor to stop but were told to keep going.
Granted it's a secondhand source.
