The open spans on that deck are crazy
If they reshored, there is an email or meeting minutes with the SE regarding the issue.
Heard indirectly from a (not sure if they have anything to do with this project) steel supplier that this was a new system they were trying that would have the metal stud walls be load-bearing to cut the spans in half (or so) because they stack. Even if that was the plan there are still some spans approaching 20' being supported by the W10s (noodles) but where the hell is all of the shoring required on either side of where the stud walls are going to be installed?

You saw it from the street?
Those floors are like 10+ stories up, I seriously doubt anyone saw that from the street.
The floors weren't parallel towards the top and there appeared to be a bulge or sag in the middle. Looking up the floor was not even compared to the other floors in the middle.

Brian Trascher, a spokesman for the contractor on the $85 million hotel project, Metairie-based Citadel Builders, questioned the provenance of the video and cautioned against drawing any conclusions from it. “I think there’s a lot of Monday-morning quarterbacking going on, a lot of people trying to flex their engineering muscles because this happened,” he said.

Sure it does. Taller and more dense developments are being pushed by planning and zoning all the time.. you know the smart growth and sustainable bs that’s being pushed down the throats of taxpayers. When will enough be enough? Seems like greed won on this project. I’d love to see what concessions were made and what concessions were ignored by elected officials as part of the “agreement” that allowed this monstrosity to sail through
So you are against the hotel project? That's fine... but what does that have to do with the shoddy engineering/construction that apparently happened here?
Place the blame where it belongs. And that's not with the council or zoning.

You didn't see that though, right?
Your son saw that.
Your son saw that.

a near note-perfect description of the goings-on in this thread

what are you talking about? this isn't even a "tall" structure for Nola. shitty planning/execution/materials have nothing to do with your "point"
This is par for the course for her. When people say women shouldn't be allowed in technical conversations, it's because of people like her. All she has is emotion... no facts.

Chicken needs a forensic engineering board

Oh... now the GC is talking.

I saw it after he pointed it out to me and I'll add other people noticed it too as they were coming out of the Saenger.

What is Brian Trascher's screen name?
This thread has him triggered.

Did you see it? Im not trying to call you out or anything, Ive seen this mentioned multiple places.
But the steel structure starts like 7 stories up, so for random people to identify this from the street is just weird.

One and the same. Slight bulging towards the ground or a better term would be a slight sag towards the ground.

"The prevailing opinion among progressive planners in America is that higher buildings and denser development are better," she said in a letter to Palmer. She called the proposed design, which did not come from her firm, "beautiful." Also at issue is whether the project would violate the city's master plan.
Again... what does this opinion have to do with the technical situation of the collapse?

Opponents say the mere idea of granting large waivers violates the basic spirit of the master plan, which was intended to set up uniform rules everyone must follow and to end the age-old custom of developers cutting special deals with council members
As long as there is zoning, there will be waivers. I think the zoning on that side of Canal St is horrendous, and I would rather them fix it once and for all, then continue to grant waivers.
I guess we could be like Houston... and have no zoning at all.
