If they were using illegals they would have just fired them and brought in another busload.
Watching that video, supervision should have been raising questions about that piss poor design.

That is really what I meant. Surely there were some in a position of authority on the site who should've recognized the danger even if only for his or her own safety.

That poor Mexican in that video probably couldn’t say a word about it to any kind of boss without being fired on the spot.

If it wasn't criminal before, I would think that the evidence coming out that structural issues may have been known about before the collapse absolutely move it into the criminal realm.
It's one thing to have a building that suddenly collapses and kills people due to a structural issue. It's a whole different story if obvious warning signs were known and people were left in that building who were killed when it came down. That's not just gross negligence. That's wanton disregard of human life.

NOLA.com just posted what appears to be pretty damning video of sagging concrete slabs 2 days before the collapse.

SOP is to put a whole lot of them up, one every couple of feet. There's a picture MrLSU posted a few pages back that shows several floors of concrete being supported at an earlier point in the project. It looks like a forest. That one apparently was so bent that it was jammed into place and couldn't be removed, per the narration of the video.

The open spans on that deck are crazy
If they reshored, there is an email or meeting minutes with the SE regarding the issue.

He's probably only allowed to talk to his foreman, and his foreman said "That's not our problem."

Yeah, I don’t know how someone that’s built anything could look at those big unsupported sections and think it’s okay.

How involved are city inspectors in this type of potentially gross negligence? Are their regular inspections of a project such as this?

I don’t know if this vid has been posted yet of a few days before the collapse showing some beams bending...they knew.
