That's so odd as to almost defy belief.

Unless she knew the attacker and thought she could reason with him. Which is just wild speculation as is everything else in this thread.

Went to Colorado on a solo hiking trip in early May last summer and my biggest concern was pulling up to trailheads with one or zero vehicles parked there. I'm sure it's just me living so close to Memphis but it always makes me uneasy. Headed to Wyoming on Friday to see that state for the first time and do a bunch of hiking. I worry about not having a firearm with me. If someone tries to rob us I'll try to bear mace their arse. That's the best defense I'll have. I hate it for those poor kids and hope they catch the person or persons quickly.

Pack heat, then.

Deal with criminal in like manner:

1. Draw gun and fire 4 times at center mass
2. Draw bear spray and spray his face
3. Draw gun again and fire 4 times into head
4. Piss on him

Stand there with your pecker out, dangling over the body while gleaming in the sun, and stare deeply in the eyes of any potential passers by. This should intimidate any other possible villains.

If she took the kids back to the visitor center, she almost had to be in hysterics, and this time of the year there had to be other people around.

I don’t get how a lady with two little kids in that scenario was allowed to go back on her own. I guess maybe she just stashed the kids at the first halfway safe hiding spot she could find and went back without seeing anyone, but again, just wild speculation.

I haven't seen that reported anywhere, so not sure where OP is getting that from. It does seem very odd if that's how it went down.

True crime conspiracy theorists like you are the reason the surviving Idaho 4 roommates and friends basically had to go into hiding. Speculate about something else.

Sounds like a hit. Were they in witness protection? I need there to be a connection or story that makes sense.

don't know why all the hate against this opinion. It was my first thought too.

I mean, what do I know?? Could be random, but most murders are conducted by people known to the victims. I don't have any proof to support my opinion, but I wouldn't call it a "conspiracy" to say that there may be more to this story. These folks definitely don't give rich people vibes that would make them a target for thieves.

It was definitely premeditated, with the suspect bringing a large backpack, wearing weight lifting gloves, and obscuring his license plates. Not to mention the location being cut off from cell service.

If I were police I would be looking into how the family chose the spot to hike and did they tell anyone that is where they were going.

EDIT:Additional information has been released regarding the murders at Devil's Den State Park, Arkansas. Clinton David Brink, 43, and Cristen Amanda Brink, 41, who had recently moved to Prairie Grove, Ark. from another state, were identified as the victims. They were stabbed while hiking on the popular Devil's Den Trail with their daughters, aged 9 and 7, who survived the incident and are currently safe with family members.

Stabbed? I would think one person stabbing two people to death would be a very physical thing to do. One has to be pretty worked up to stab two people to death.

This is why you pack when hiking. Its not for the bears. Its for the evil worthless 2 legged predators.

According to one site about 500,000 people visit this state park every year and it has been open since the mid 1930s. Figure it averages 10,000 people a year for 95 years. Just a little research indicates these are the only 2 people murdered in the park...so .0002% of the people who have conservatively visited this park have been murdered. Carry a gun if you want to but doing so to prevent being one of 2 of 950,000 people, again a very low number, is ludicrous.

Hard to tell if they were the “type” to have targets on their backs by appearance. From their FB profiles, they looked like a couple who enjoyed doing things outdoors with their kids. The husband has multiple pics where he is wearing a MAGA hat. Lots of tattoos but that doesn’t mean anything these days. Weird. Between this and the Michigan attack, who knows. More and more people are just nuts these days, or at least allowed to roam free while nuts compared to in the past. I have ties to both northern MI and AR. Both places are nice, family-type places without a lot of crime.

When Im biking or hiking, we are often alone, and there are few, if any people around, and certainly no law enforcement.

And,I agree, it is a very rare thing.

But I have a duty as a husband to protect my wife to the best of my abilities.

I've had guns pulled on me twice, admittedly, not while doing either of those activities.

Nothing bad happens until it does, and Id just as soon be prepared.

why is how and why people decide to defend themselves "ludicrous" to you? even though this is one of your shorter posts, AwgustaDog, it still took time and effort. why do you care? tell us.

Do you have any proof to support your opinion? Are suppositions not the only thing we have at this point?

I guess here is the "proof" I'm working with at this point, barring any additional information:
According to the FBI Uniform Crime Reporting, 65-75% of all homicides involve a known assailant. Further, homicides by sharp instruments (eg, knives) between 70-80% are committed by someone known to the victim. Strangers account for only 20% of knife related murders.

My 1st thought is why did mom return to attack site? I get why she did it and also was not in her rational mind. She would have lived had she stayed with her children and as difficult as it was, allow the law enforcement to go back to the site.

Aside from common sense about the crime itself, according to an earlier post in this thread, the family supposedly already said it was a random attack, and clearly the kids didn't recognize the assailant or the cops would have his name and picture out there.

Add in the fact that the family supposedly just recently moved to Arkansas, it'd be quite unlikely they'd have mortal enemies.

TIL reducing your chance of violent death by exercising your constitutional and God given right is ludicrous.

I learn amazing things in this place.
