Depends on how much I like the sport. I really like baseball so I’ll drive a good ways to watch my son play. If he decides to take up soccer I’m not going unless it’s 5 minutes away and in an indoor climate controlled facility with high speed wifi so I can watch real sports on my phone.
This has to be a joke. You mean watching other people is more important than being there to support your child? It means more to them than they let on.
Soccer is actually a very exciting sport to watch vs baseball. At any moment a break away can happen and a scoring opportunity can present itself. You get to see great defense and great offense on these breaks.
Baseball is one of the more boring sports to watch. I watched both my sons play through high school and it was a snooze fest more times than not.

Truthfully, I didn’t give a frick if they were ever there. I played sports for myself.
Pretty much this. Parents went to most of my games growing up but I didn't expect them to travel multiple hours to catch a random game on a Tuesday or anything.

I try to attend all of my kid's games where ever they are. My parents went to a total of maybe 6 of my games throughout everything I did - T-ball - high school. I guess because of that experience I want my kids to have the feeling of being supported.
I used to ride my bike to my t-ball, little league, and high school baseball games (until I bought my first truck) all my football games I rode with a neighbor and teammate until I was driving. I quit basketball in the 5th grade because it was too early to be able to ride my bike to the Boy's Club and get there on time.
Those experiences sucked so I guess I now go overboard. I am the dad that is overly involved - scoreboard operations, coaching, building the set for the musical, line judge for volleyball, etc. My kids are only going to be around me for so long, then I can do other things.

When my parents (boomers) were kids, their parents didn’t go to anything. Their sports were “kid stuff”, and parents rarely went to games and never practices. My dad said a lot of their pre-high school baseball practices were led by their team captain and didn’t even have an adult present.
When i was a kid (border of gen X/millenial), my parents maybe went to a few games/meets per year, never practices.
With my kids, I go to home games when i can, but sometimes i’m working if it’s before 5 on a weekday. They are high school and college age now. It seems like with each younger generation, parents become more present with everything. Not making judgment, just an observation.

It's always sad to see how few parents show up for some teams playing away, especially if the game conflicts with LSU football.

Mine came to all my games. Regardless of distance

My dad loathed little league baseball. Not that he missed any games. I think he cried the day I said frick fall ball, I am playing football
My sister played softball for like 2 years and my Dad hated going to all those games so much.
He was definitely happy when she finally gave it up her Junior year. But he never complained in front of my sister.
I did though. Because I was the younger brother and that was my job.

Now that my son has graduated, I'd give a testicle to drive 2 hours to watch him play again.

My parents came to all of my games.
I dont care if my kid is playing 1st grade Chess in Dry Prong, or HS Baseball Playoffs at home ..... I'm going support him.

I doubt he’ll run track again. They have some pretty special kids in the 100 and 200 this year...so yea, this is once in a while team. They won South State for this first time since 2004...my son wasn’t born until 2006. He made it all the way to South State in the individual 400m as an 8th grader...so that was cool.

You showed your cards too early. You went all in before the flop with a pair of Jacks.

I don't think my parents came to my T&F meets either
I didn’t want to be at any of my t&f events.

Miss it now.
Mine is only starting middle school and I’m already dreading this day. I enjoy it so much watching him play.

Understood. These next 4 years are going to be insane. We only have one child, so this is it. My contribution to his athletics is pretty much over, he’s got coaches for that now. He’s ready though. It will be interesting to see how far he can take it.

We try to have at least one of us at all of them, but sometimes it's just not possible. As long as they see the effort and you make it to some, the kids don't really care.
the kids care. go to their games. one day youll miss it

Don’t worry, my dad never came to one of my baseball games when I grew up.

If you just didn't know and was just asking a real question then, the answer is all of the parents of my sons high school teams went to as much as humanly possible.
It was difficult at times but I would give anything to see my sons play just 1 more game.
