The answer is to not allow any kids to play with dolls.
Girls playing with dolls leads to unrealistic expectations and poor body image resulting in the world of the semi-synthetic like the Kardashians.

Meh, my boy played with his sister’s dolls. Don’t really care. My daughter plays with my son’s boy stuff too. People are over thinking things.

It's not dolls, but when my son was 5 he would always tell people he wanted to be a chef when he grew up. He asked for an Easy Bake Oven for Christmas that year.
My FIL got it for him and berated him repeatedly for wanting such a girly toy for Christmas. My son, now about to turn 18 and perfectly straight, STILL remembers his Big Daddy making fun of him and resents him for it (he resents him for more than the oven, but the teasing is still on the list).
Point being, tread carefully. Don't read too much into things when they're young.

I played with dolls when I played with my female neighbor friend as a kid. I played house with my female cousins. Then with myself or other boys, I played with my army men and action figures, played street hockey, etc.
I [think I] turned out fine. Let the kids explore what they will. Except for reassignment surgery at least until they're adults and don't need your consent; you've gotta at least let puberty play out on that one.

My daughter asked for nothing but dinosaur toys for Christmas.
We are starting her testosterone treatment next week.
Did you ask her if she wants to identify as a man?

No. As her parents, we decide these things.

My 5.5 and 1.5 boys sometimes play with my 3.5 girl’s dolls. Usually it ends up with them using them as clubs to whack the other one or throwing them off the stairs.

Brother played with a Barbie ( the one that was just head, neck, shoulders. He is gay. Not saying it’s related he did. Had other stuff happening we didn’t know about like sex abuse by baby sitter. Make sure orther things aren’t happening.

Children are only innocent for a very short amount of time these days. If he is below the age of 8 and wants to play with a doll, let him do it. He doesnt care if its a boy or girl toy, and definitely doesnt care about #metoo or transgender shite. They have the rest of their life to hear about that stuff. I say let him go.

We have a distant relative male child whose parents, particularly the mother, not only allowed him to play with dolls, but actively encouraged it when he was a toddler on up. She would even dress him in girls clothes. I don't know if she really wanted a daughter or what the deal was. Once other people started taking note that this was advancing beyond mere imagination or play on the part of the child, people started saying things. Of course this was met with extreme defensiveness and argument that those who would dare question this are close-minded, homophobic, conservative unenlightened neanderthals, etc. Saw the kid at a family event a few weeks ago after maybe about a year since the last sighting. At that time, he was a noticeably effeminate male child, but nothing super crazy. Still looked like a boy. We have now been informed that he is "transitioning". This is a 12 year old child we are talking about. It was honestly sad because it is apparent that the mother, either through political activism or mental illness, created this mess and confusion in the mind of a developing brain and now this kid is genuinely confused and in a full on identity crisis that will make for an extremely shitty life henceforth if he doesn't snap out of it. I feel bad for him.

Age makes a difference. Also how did he end up with a doll?
Dont just let him "do as he wants he'll grow out of it". Unless you couldnt care less if he turns out gay. If a toddler then it's not as big of a deal, but you do want to make sure you learn why. How he is playing with them? Is he pretending to be the dolls "bf/hubby" like he sees mom/dad? Or he talking to her like her "gay bestie"?
Parents need to keep tabs on their kids to understand, and guide them. Not just "let them do what ever until they grow out of it". Times are different, and you are competing against outside influences most of our parents didnt have to deal with.
