Now this is how you tell a story. I knew this guy once. And nothing happened. I was hanging on every word!

My cousin never drove a jeep. We lived next door to each other. I would know this.

You must have me mixed up with someone else.

You want me to name my friends on a public comment board? Tell us your name and address first and I might consider naming my friends who had a fricking jumbo jet wipe a stripe across their street.

You don’t understand how small that community was.

Wasn’t there a plane that landed on one of the levees in like 07 or something after a huge hail storm? They had to fly the plane off the levee to save it. Really cool.

Google TACA Flight 110 (but it wasn't in '07)

quote:

TACA Flight 110 was a scheduled international flight operated by TACA International Airlines, traveling from San Salvador to New Orleans, with a stopover in Belize City. On May 24, 1988, the flight encountered severe thunderstorm activity on its final approach to New Orleans International Airport. As a result, the brand new Boeing 737-300 suffered flameout in both engines, but the pilots made a successful emergency landing on a grass levee adjacent to NASA's Michoud Assembly Facility, with no one aboard sustaining more than a few minor injuries, and with only minor hail damage to the intact aircraft. Following an on-site engine replacement, the jetliner took off from Saturn Boulevard, a road that had previously been an aircraft runway at Michoud. The aircraft was subsequently repaired and returned to service until it was retired in 2016.

The Eymards?

I knew Ted well, his wife was Marty I believe, she was 8 months pregnant, the 154th victim. They were the last 2 to board. Very sad. I was on the river about a mile from the airport, heard the boom, saw the smoke.

We were on our way to a camping trip in Kisatche when we heard the news on the radio. I can remember it like it was yesterday.

Initials EM, nickname starts with a C.

At one time, the M family lived on Metairie Heights in my neighborhood

Didn't the M's live in between Vets and W. Esplanade ? or closer to the levee ? For some reason I thought EM attended Sam Barthe/Ecole Classique as his younger sister and I graduated from St. Martin's

777Tiger saw it happen. He was third in line to take off.

Small world. Family friend was a NWA captain on a DC-9 at MSY that day. He was originally given takeoff clearance and declined it based on the weather. Decided to wait. He recalled Pan Am quickly said they would accept the clearance.

Sadly, Jerry lost a battle with Leukemia in 2020 but alot of people owed their lives to his judgement and decision making on that day.

A couple years ago I posted some photos my Dad had taken of the scene (my Grandmother lived in the neighborhood and we went to check on her) in the link below. Still eerie to think about.
