A grown person saying "N word" makes them sound like a third grader. Say "a racial epithet" or something. Everybody knows what you're talking about.

You are suggesting they are all the same?

There are trash of every race and creed.
Would you be offended if I called some slack-jawed, cousin-fricking, trailer-dwelling peckerwood a name? If I told a sparsely bearded inbred cracker covered in meth sores to get his honkey arse off my property, would the “oxygen leave the room?”

People are “offended” because they are told they are offended. Trash is trash and calling them the detritus du blanc or whatever other color they are, (And look up the etymology) isn’t the cardinal sin modern proggies have made it to be.

Pretty soon using the expression 'the N word' will become derogatory and we'll have to say 'the word starting with N'.

Yeah and blacks will say YOU are racist, even though they're using skin color to determine who can use the word.

Driving back from ATL last weekend I, a white male, listened to Straight Outta Compton and sang every word.

Does anyone know where the nearest camps are from Nashville? TIA

black people are LITERALLY called this word..... THOUSANDS of times in their lives---- all by other black people.

If a white person even mentions the word, not even directed at someone...

Moochele Obarry is LITERALLY shaking in her size 15 boots.

I understand it's just a word. But considering the historical context, I prefer to use a different words when describing someone I find repulsive. Just different opinions.

it's obviously not that serious. But going out of your way to use it just because you're fighting PC culture or some shite is juvenile.

I’m against selective censure. I believe I defending even speech I disagree with. I find it the height of hypocrisy to sanitize huck Finn while kids are listening to rap albums that are far more vulgar. I have seen that progressives never stop when it comes to controlling speech or thought, so I don’t believe in giving them any quarter. Not an inch. I also know making something taboo, (while simultaneously having it be a part of everyday life in some cultures) is a recipe for it being forbidden fruit. Context context context.

I think that words should be used selectively, to convey the greatest meaning in the smallest package. So to the holier than thou people who claim that One word Should Never be used, while looking the other way when it is constantly used in pop culture...that’s simply asinine.

I couldn't agree more. Simply saying I don't use it, because of it's historical context. It's a personal choice.

And that’s fine. Words should always be personal choices. I just don’t like my word choices to be dictated to me by others.

You think? I was told that anybody who says that word is worse than Hitler. Anybody who smokes, too.

The mere fact that this article even exists proves Viggo’s point as to just how taboo the word is in 2018. But come on Viggo, what kind of bubble do you live in to think you can get away with that in a public forum?

I watched Return of the King two nights ago.

Viggo Mortensen should bow to no man.

Agreed

It's a trashy word, used by trash people. It's never used in intelligent conversation or a compelling argument. We should recognize that it's just a good indicator of insecurity/stupidity/etc. and move on.

Yup... kinda like the word ‘Democrat’.

Why do you act as if this is mysterious? Different "in groups" use terminology all the time that you would never consider saying if not a member of that group. As a child in Louisiana, how many times did you call your dad by his first name that his drinking buddies called him? How many times did you call your grandfather by his Korean War nickname that only his fellow soldiers would dare to call him? etc. etc. This isn't even a marginally mysterious concept. Acting like it is makes people seem stupid.

Ultimately it is maybe the only word that POC have that gives them some implied power over whites and they want to use that power to its fullest extent. A lot of whites fear the shite out of it too. I mean hell we can't even use a word that has the letters n-I-g in without having someone try to ruin our lives.

This. It's also useful for authoritarians, as it's an anchor word that gets the idea of forbidden words or ideas into people's heads.

Their attempt to create laws barring its use was the first step in this direction.

Did Bill Maher suck the oxygen out of the room when he said it? In a joking manner. Versus a discussion that was meant to be anti-racist.

For fricks sake. What should we be outraged about today, spoon feeding corrupt media?
