I don’t feel sympathy for anyone “affected” by a WORD in America today, even this extremely offensive word - when used in the context in which Mortensen spoke it.

Why don’t these hordes of offended people address the feckless “musicians,” comedians, and popular social media personalities who still casually toss this word around, who claim it is their right as an artist, and are not uttering it in reference to historical contexts?

Those that are outraged should concentrate their efforts on individuals actually responsible for perpetuating the persistence of this term. Why do only certain people currently have the right to speak a word as either a curse or term of endearment - without consequence?

I’m not advocating the use of this epithet, but it’s a freaking word. We don’t call the toilet a chamber pot anymore. No one refers to people as we did 60 years ago. My black friends don’t refer to me as a cracker they like.

Society stops using outdated words when the word is replaced. The N word will go only away when those who still casually say it regularly stop doing so.

The outrage over what Mortensen said proves that free speech is separate but not equal in the eyes of the incredibly ignorant, vindictive American public.

Check this out now and scratch your head later.

In 2018 “People of Color” is a preferred term, while “Colored People” is strongly frowned upon. They carry the exact same meaning. Help me out here.

But it's completely acceptable for black people in altercations with other black people to call them the following.... frick-N***** Bitch-N**** Pussy-arse-N**** N****

Interestingly, the word was appropriated from white folks (eh, European Americans) who can no longer say it. European Americans are often accused of appropriating words, clothing, recipes, etc. from other ethnic groups, so perhaps those ethnic groups must give up their rights to those appropriated things.

I'm always amazed at how much destructive power that word carries. They call each other that. Furthermore they can call white folks and other minorities anything they desire with impunity.

Pretty fricked up if you ask me.

Does anybody else think people who give a word that much power are kinda weak.

It’s just a word.
Some of the people who say this would want to meet someone at sonic if someone called their wife a count.

story takes place, in 1962, I used the full word," Mortensen said in a statement to THR. "Although my intention was to speak strongly against racism, I have no right to even imagine the hurt that is caused by hearing that word in any context, especially from a white man."

All the while, 90% of black race calls each other ni99a, ni99a, ni99a in every day conversations.

People are “offended” because they are told they are offended.

Same thing as wearing blackface. People are offended bc they’ve been told blackface is offensive but they don’t know the history or why it can be offensive. And since they don’t know that, they think anytime a white person wears face paint is racist.
