Strider’s word is a sword of hate
quote:
Mortensen's remark came during a discussion about race in America following a screening put on by the Film Independent Presents group in Hollywood, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
"For instance, no one says N— anymore," he said.
Dick Schulz, a Film Independent member and freelance director, said he was present at the screening in a tweet and that the "oxygen immediately left the room" after Mortensen’s comment.
quote:
"In making the point that many people casually used the 'N' word at the time in which the movie's story takes place, in 1962, I used the full word," Mortensen said in a statement to THR. "Although my intention was to speak strongly against racism, I have no right to even imagine the hurt that is caused by hearing that word in any context, especially from a white man."
He promised never to say it again.

Does anybody else think people who give a word that much power are kinda weak.
It’s just a word.
It’s just a word.

Nobody? Rappers use that word all the time.

Rappers use it in a hateful context every day and people love it, but whitey uses it in a historical context and everyone loses their fricking minds.
Give me a fricking break Vigo

Agreed
It's a trashy word, used by trash people. It's never used in intelligent conversation or a compelling argument. We should recognize that it's just a good indicator of insecurity/stupidity/etc. and move on.

Ultimately it is maybe the only word that POC have that gives them some implied power over whites and they want to use that power to its fullest extent. A lot of whites fear the shite out of it too. I mean hell we can't even use a word that has the letters n-I-g in without having someone try to ruin our lives.

Weak minded people.

Words are not violence, Vigo

As I was reading this I said the N word in my head. I'm sorry, I can't imagine the hurt that reading the entire word in my head has caused.

What about in a discussion about the origins of the word? Or in literature? Or in a historical discussion using first hand sources?

No reasonable black person can find this objectionable language. Perhaps they want to argue with the accuracy, but the sentiment is generally supportable and this is, in fact, the opposite of a racist sentiment.
ONLY crazies and radicals (mostly guilty, self-loathing white progressives) can have any problems with this statement WHATSOEVER.
Period. Full stop.
