Our public schools are better private. It was an easy choice.

Know a family that drives luxury suv and lives in a fairly large house and tells us they could never afford private school while their kids go to D rated public

I think the better question would be, if you live in an area with such crappy schools why would you pay to send your kids to private schools instead of getting out of there and live somewhere with great public schools?

Clearly your parents spent extra money to send you to a special school.

Different sets of priorities..saw it a lot growing up as a middle class kid..I went to the best school (private) in town with the highest avg ACT graduation score by far..was always grateful and proud of my parents sacrifice while plenty of my public school friends had parents that chose to invest in vacations/boats and bigger houses..just different outlooks..as a result if I was poor I would certainly want the option of a charter school vs being forced into a public school for my kids

This is basically what I'm referring to. Maybe Louisiana is different, but in TN you send your kids to private school if you can afford it. It's basically a given. Chattanooga, Nashville, Memphis and Knoxville public schools are shite. Maybe you have a different experience in larger cities in Louisiana.

I'm not talking about religious schools either. I'm talking McCallie School, Girls Prepatory School, Harpeth Hall, Baylor School...etc

Well for us it would be because we can't move all the acreage of land that we farm, much of it family land.

Because why would anyone aspire to send their child to a public school?

I agree. There isn't a private school in the entire parish I live in. There is no market for one. The privates in nearby parishes have low performance compared to our public schools. Probably the exception to the rule.

Because the private school in my area doesn't challenge my kids like the public achool.?

We just pulled our kids out of a catholic school because the public schools are better where we live. Depends on everyone's situation

In most places if your home costs enough, the schools should be okay.

Just sayin.

We started out in private school and a few years in we realized that our son was falling behind. We moved him to public school and he is on track to graduate at or very the top is his class (2017). He plans to attend the University of Foorida and study engineering.

Eta: I don't live in a McMansion and we drive reasonable cars. We own a beach house.

There are good public schools around both Knoxville and Nashville. As a Tennessee resident I don't think that sending your kids to a private school is a given

It sounds like you just want to say you send your kids to private school and not because it's a better education.

How is that any different from buying the nice house and luxury cars?
