How does this happen?

I understand if you can't afford a private school, but how can parents justify sending their kids(s) to a public school, while spending money overpriced homes in cookie cutter neighborhoods, vacations and expensive vehicles?

I'm genuinely curious. Maybe your area has decent public schools, but even still, is there not a private school nearby where you don't have to settle for "decent?"

You assume a private school is always > than a public school That is not always the case. Or maybe the parents want their kids to be around normal people instead of stuck up snobs.

When\Where I grew up the public schools were better than the private schools. However, that is no longer the case.

I think it's a faulty assumption that a private education is always better than a public.

Maybe avoiding private school is how they can afford those nice things

We are not, nor were ever wealthy, but our children went to very good public schools and the few privates were much ado about nothing where we reside.

I would rather send my kids to public school than a school that is in place to worship a fictitious being.

Priorities. Everyone's are different. Not saying either way is right or wrong but that's what I think it comes down to.

I've been paying Catholic school tuition since 1997 .. 3 kids ... 1 is graduated, one is a senior and the last is a freshman. I don't even want to think about adding it all up. But it's what we wanted for our kids.

Every one is different and that's what makes the world go round.

Where we are, well, we're not zoned for the "better public schools" ... and let's just say that when my oldest was a freshman in high school, one of his elementary school classmates went to the public high school. Her dad was the principal of said high school and for her sophomore year, yeah, he sent her back to the Catholic school. Had public school zone been different, we may very well have considered it.

No, I'm assuming you are capable of differentiating between poor private schools and good private schools.

im also assuming parents would naturally want their children to receive the best education possible.

Unfortunately, not everyone values education.

There's a single wide trailer house down the road from my house.
They have a Lincoln Navigator and f250 truck.
100k in vehicles.
30k in the roof over their head.

I laugh everytime I pass by. It truly brightens my day.

Lets send them to catholic school so they can be taught to follow a false, empty identity. Great idea.

Because large home in a good neighborhood = good public school

They probably pay property taxes out the arse so might as well capitalize on it. It's free

Yeah, I'm not referring to "religious" private schools. The best private schools in the country are not religious.
