Might contact St Joseph's Abbey to compare prices. I would prefer wood anyway.

The price almost doubled in less than 8-1/2 years. ...But now, in addition to the shysters at the funeral home, you've got monks taking advantage of you too.

Have you noticed the increased cost of wood? Especially furniture grade solid wood? It's easily doubled in the last eight years. Cut some slack here.

Walmart, Costco and Amazon sell caskets online too. But the reviews I have found say Overnight or Titan are the best online sellers.

The title wasn't exactly misleading, but I can't say that this is what I expected it to be about

How is this taking advantage of you? No one forced you to buy from them.

Well, if you want to get down to brass tacks, I was forced by my parents' final wishes. But my post was in reference to the the price of the same style casket roughly doubling in 8-1/2 years.

Yup. I’m getting cremated. My wife and hunting buddy know which stands and food plots to spread my remains.

I don't have experience with a casket. When mom died recently, we just had her cremated and ashes in the plastic box. Cost $3500 for the pick up at home, cremation, 2 different newspaper obits. Took her ashes and planted a sweet olive bush by the house. She didn't want anything fancy. We later had a family get together and remembrance. Don't let funeral homes talk you into anything you don't want or can't afford.

There was about $1000 cost to remove the screws and cover to mausoleum tile when we buried a family member a few years back.

my mother and brother passed on consecutive days a few years ago

since they both lived in the same town, we used the same funeral home

had my mom cremated, it was about $2500

my s-i-l insisted on a full burial for my bro, it was about $9000

told my youngest that i would buy them a shovel to use when i shuffle off this mortal coil

How have I never heard of this?!? I always said I wanted a hand-made pine box with no embalming (those chemicals are nasty). Now I can upgrade to cypress and support the spreading of the Gospel. Win/ win.
