Over. But I do pay an extra couple hundred a month. Always want a comfortable amount of equity.

Never want to feel stuck in my house. If I need to be mobile and move due to a recession or what, I’ll be able to get out without a loss (unless we’re talking worse than 2008-2010).

I don't know that I would ever throw extra money down on a low interest mortgage. There's some serious opportunity cost involved with that strategy.

I haven't looked but I would imagine a 200,000 house at 30 years with 20 % down could get you under this number at under 4 % interest rate.

You’d be way under. I’m at $1390 including escrow for insurance and property tax on $210k house w/ 3.5% down at 3.875% rate for 30 years

Using a mortgage calculator, your total payment would be $1047/month with average property taxes.

About $1250/month in states with higher average property taxes.

No HOA fees included.

Having a larger mortgage does not necessarily mean one is living above ones means.

You could put 3-5% down and be under that average. However, I'm over because my house is more than 200k.
