Over. I have a 30 year mortgage, but send in about an extra $175/month on top of my regular payment so I can try to have it paid off in 20 years. It would be under of taxes and insurance weren't so damn expensive in Mandeville.

What would make this thread real interesting? If everyone was completly honest about what percentage of their gross pay is eaten up by these three items.

I have about 1200 sq ft in rural Baldwin County, AL with about an acre of great land.

I pay a little over half the OP for mortgage, insurance, fees, etc.

wouldn't change a thing. I love my place/yard

That’s my exact mortgage payment plus voluntary hoa club dues.

Crazy. Really makes you think.

Over. I'm paying more than that in rent.

Same. I'd be rich if I got away with paying $1400/month.

Our home will be finished in about 3 months.
At that point, we will be over $1443 per month by about $600.
We have 3 kids, plus I live in Texas.

20% down on a 300k home at 4% is right at this number. The going rate is closer to 4.25-4.5 lately so it's probably closer to 280k.

Many people don't have the liquidity to put 20% so it's probably more like a 250k home with 5-10% down with the PMI added. I imagine many, many people here are around this. We aren't all OT ballers. Just liars.

Over. I rent and you'd be very fortunate to find a 1 bedroom apt for that outside of slum conditions.

But remember you are paying for the privilege of not living near the colored people.....and the gated community most probably unless you live in Meadowbrook where you get old security guard

However, and I'm not being facetious, you do get as a benefit there that your house can appreciate at a minimum of about 3% per year.....what is crazy is that everything tends to be more expensive in West St. Tammany as opposed to the Slidell area, houses, insurance and gasoline....you pay about .06 more per gallon at the Kangaroo on 59 then you do at the circle K on Northshore or the Racetrac on 11 and the Shell stations

8.4% of my gross pay goes to piti. And that doesn't count my wife's pay.

We are still only paying the minimum on the mortgage right now. A lot of the discretionary income is going to our retirement.
