I read a few months back that kids from the north/northeast are looking for the type of experience that can be gotten in an SEC type school.

I am laughing so fricking hard at this pic. I was thinking, that can’t be it. I zoomed in and he has my lowly SVSU on what looks like a small flag.

That’s where I graduated from. I only transferred there from a bigger school because it was cheap and I could live with my parents. Not the most fun situation for me, but it also allowed me to graduate debt free.

There’s no way some Ivy League type was ever thinking about going there.

I didn’t know this until like a year ago. They can mass apply to schools now. And it’s either a small flat fee or nothing at all. Man that would have been and saved a TON of time. I had to write short essay answers for the BIG schools. Do the schools even require that anymore?

I know of some kids who made 31+ and they received scholarships.

Define scholarships. That minuscule $3,500 they offer while forcing you to spend $15K a year on room and board? LSU wants out of state kids. They just flat out don't want instate it seems. It's all about $$$. Good friend's kid had a 4.8 with a 36 on the ACT and LSU offered that whopping $3,500 on top of TOPS.

If your student lives within 50 miles of campus, they aren't required to live on campus.

Some of this changes when you get a university scholarship. They wanted me to live on campus for 2 years to get my scholarship. You could do it for 1 year, but then you lose the scholarship. Want to live elsewhere? With your parents that live 2 miles away? Doesn’t matter. You aren’t getting the money the 2nd, 3rd and 4th year. You have to live on campus for 2 years. This is the BS they pull.

How many kids didn't get a scholarship because of this kid?

Probably none. If he was offered a scholarship from a school and didn’t attend, that scholarship went to someone else.

I'd rather send her to UF or USM.

I am not singling out a demographic. If they are Americans they have as much right as I do to that spot. But as a tax paying Texan I am pissed if my kid doesn’t get in and a Chinese citizen does. Currently more than 10% of UT are foreigners

The UT student body is hardly recognizable anymore. In 5-10 years it's going to blow your mind. They need to quasi "privatize" in order to better control admissions. I'll let the big money / big brains figure that one out!

All schools have em but in the south they’re a very small minority and are outcasts.

Ivy leagues and other schools up north they basically run the show.

73 percent acceptance rate.
Not with 62k+ applicants! That would be 45,260 freshmen. Last year, 8,200 freshmen were accepted into LSU.

*At 8200 incoming freshmen and 63k applications,v that would be an acceptance rate of 13.2%.

More likely, the 62k number is bogus

Acceptance rate by the university is different than what number of those accepted/admitted actually then choose to enroll at the university in the fall.

A lot of students apply to backup schools or to see what scholarships they get offered and use that as part of decision (like if offer is too good to ignore even if not first choice).
