Every law abiding citizen should have their CHP and some training. A few doses of their own medicine would stop this.

So these aren't the types to go out looking for trouble.

But they were in New Orleans. And trouble found them.

Is this normally a dangerous spot? Isnt this like 1 block off Frenchman?

1-2 blocks from Port O Call / Royal Street Inn, and Bourbon Street & Esplanade. Definitely an area that is dangerous AF at 1:30am.

I don't know about "normally"

Normally probably not.

But its certainly not metairie or anything, and places like that are so close to bad neighborhoods you can be in the wrong place at the wrong time at 1:30 in the afternoon, let alone 1:30 am

Did they resist an armed robber or was he just shot after giving up the wallet, money, etc.?

Two financially well off gay dudes at 1:32am off Bourbon St is an easy target.

Only time I've been out there past 2am in the last 5 years was after the Natty when there were a dozen of us and the streets were still loaded with cops and fans.

Place is way too sketch after 11pm to enjoy yourself anymore.

His brother is a good friend of mine. This is likely a robbery gone bad. He comes from a great Texas family that owns tons of Carter burgers, subways, and pizza joints.

I have zero clue about the murder.... as I just read the WWL news release confirming the time, location, and person found dead from gunshot wound. I grew up in NOLA and know the areas to avoid based on crime index and reported murders. At 1:30am (or even 1:30pm for that matter) you are putting yourself at risk when being in certain areas.

NOLA murder map

Port of Call and the R Bar are both just a block or two from this intersection. 25 years ago I would frequent both those places. New Orleans is a shithole for sure these days.

this sucks because incidents with innocents have been trending back in the right direction. My guess is they tried to push back on a mugging or something similar.

on another note, Howdy Bagels look fire

One of them probably got sassy with the robber, and he felt dissed and shot them.

Sad fact that these days there are strict rules regarding going to New Orleans.

1. It is a dangerous just like any other big city.

2. NEVER leave the tourist areas unless you know exactly where you are going and how to get there. Wandering even a block away from known areas can result in disaster.

3. I straight tell people not to cross Canal (or go on Canal for that matter) after dark.

4. You are safest in a cab or Uber moving between known points. Walking the streets after dark raises your danger level significantly.

5. After dark, the further Uptown you go the better.

It's a fact that New Orleans has always been a spicy city with more than its share of violent crime. But the tourist areas used to be "off limits" because the NOPD ran those areas with an iron fist and anyone out of line caught a beating. Ever since they neutered the NOPD (not necessarily a bad thing for Civil Rights) things have gotten way out of control.

I don't know how anybody in their right mind - or even drunken mind - could end up walking around this shithole. Every fricking week it's more news like this. And it's constantly people who aren't from around here... people on vacation, people here for a conference, whatever.

It's more than well known how outright horrible the city is. People who get killed here have been warned. It's no excuse that they have to die for it, but going out in the city and making yourself a victim is a pretty fricking stupid way to get yourself killed.

There's no rules. They'll kill you just as soon as not. The dude could have begged for his life and it makes no difference to these fricking animals. Life means nothing at all. It isn't precious. It's no miracle. It's nothing to them.

it’s odd this random murder of a fan in town for the College Football playoffs isn’t a news story or headline. this story even mentions the NOPD hasn’t confirmed it…if he was murdered in a robbery gone wrong this is a big deal
