And that average person drives something like 15k miles per year and that breaks 42 miles per day. Getting those folks in EVs would be a net gain

This is why I will never own a motor carriage. The only way they will ever be better than my Bessie is if we fricking pave every road they drive on. No way that will ever happen

I just have no concept of that entire saga

Calling someone to reset chargers, being routed and mapped to various places by some company I've never heard of

It's like a totally different EV subculture I'm blissfully ignorant of

It's growing pains like there is with every new technology. EVs will be better and easier than ICE vehicles eventually. Just like ICE vehicles were better and easier to use than a horse and buggy. We're not there yet obviously but it's going to happen.

You put the address into the car's GPS and click navigate. That's it...for a Tesla.

EV combined with self driving will be complete game changer. Theoretically you wouldn’t even need to stop to recharge. A self driving charging drone could just meet you on the highway and charge you while you drive.
With a pee bottle you could drive around the clock with no stops.

Imagine a world of EV's trying to flee New Orleans at hurricane time
What males you think that would be a problem in a Tesla?

You can easily have plenty enough range to get to the next super charger.

Get an EV for your commute and short local drives. Charge at home.
Take the family ICE vehicle on the road trips.

This is the best way for sensible adoption.

The people who jump on buying this junk are usually new money rednecks. They also gladly pay $100k for a Bronco.

Can you imagine the sucker that not only bought a Ford, but a Ford Truck EV.

Plenty of people buying their wives a tahoe to go to Starbucks and shuttle the kids around

I don’t know what the cost to the operator is, but the electric rates they charge at these stations makes my friend’s Model 3 cost more to drive per mile as my 3.5L ecoboost f150.

I’d imagine selling electricity to people who need it is decent business.

Also consider that every single home and business has the potential to be a charging station. Now whether the local grid can handle the crazy influx of people that occurs when fleeing a natural disaster is another matter and problem to solve.

Tesla is also building massive battery banks to sell to municipalities that can store energy for peak times or emergencies.

Imagine what a 10 year-old EV will be worth?

Imagine the length of time it's going to take to charge now that Tesla let's Ford use their infrastructure?

Imagine owning an EV as your only means of transportation?

EVs are cool, and I love the "instant on" torque, but as a practical means of sole transportation, they have a long way to go.

So my question is this. Could Elon be looking ahead to avoid a lawsuit by Gov? If he owns 98% of chargers would they assume its a monopoly since others can’t use it? If he opens it up then that worry goes away.

Just thinking about his motives here.

Someting else, Elon opened as a battery fueled company. Ford and others opened as a gas fueled company. I’ll never buy electric but it would be Tesla if forced.

I admire Elon for doing this as entrepenuer, i despise the rest as its forced by Gov. Big difference. Elon let market decide to buy his cars. The rest have to meet a quota.

This guy wasn't running from a hurricane. He was just trying to drive somewhere.

My next vehicle will be an EB probably, but we'll always have a hybrid or full gas too.
