Yeah it'll be closer to 10-15 years than 20-30.

Agreed. We need to go fully nuclear across the country and it needs to happen yesterday. Also more businesses and homeowners should consider Solar roofs. Tesla's solar roof is actually decent looking and pretty stout and sturdy from what I've heard.

Should've driven his EV to the airport. I'm a big fan of EVs but a 600 mile road trip with a vehicle that doesn't have an extensive charging network isn't very responsible. You need to know their limitations.

Yeah, I think he was trying to fail. Never go behind 75% of max range. For trips longer than that, take a ICE car (most families have more than 1 care).

There's 1,000x the demand for travel blog EV failure stories than EV success ones.

This dude is just going where the money is.

I don't understand what you're trying to say. Was the charging network for electric cars around in the 1830's? Elon didn't create the car, but Tesla created a network and proved it's viability at least until it sells more cars.

That the statement 'this EV farce would be dead without elon" is pretty narrow minded.

Would EV charging stations be less prevalent without Elons influx of capital? Yes. Would there be zero? No.

The most one guy can do is advance technology a couple of years, slow and steady rise is inevitable

They could just evacuate remotely

You don't have 2 vehicles for your household?

We do. Are you suggesting we sell the ICE (which runs just fine) and drop $60K+ on a car just to drive around the city? Plus what happens to the ICE car I sell that in your scenario, no one wants?

EVs actually do a really good job of holding a charge in stop and go traffic. When snow shut down the interstate in the DC area last year there were people trapped in Teslas for almost 18 hours and they were blasting the heater and streaming Netflix and the batteries held up.

ETA: When the EV pushers are asked about that they say that with proper planning cities like New Orleans could use busses and trains to evacuate.

No need to sell a car that works fine. When it comes time to buy again u could purchase an EV if u wanna save time and money on the work commute and still have an ICE vehicle for road trips and the weekly hurricane evacuation tho.

Or u could just buy another ICE vehicle. The world is your oyster

No. But when the time does come for a new vehicle an will probably be a good option for you and your family.

Ida wouldn't have been covered under the current warranty. I had some salesman try hard to get me in at a store. Told him to give me a warranty that covers any hurricane and we could talk.

Anyone who goes long distance with an EV runs this risk.

They are local use vehicles. Period.

You should tell my SIL that who makes the 5 hours one way trip to the ranch to tend to the horses every 2 weeks in her model Y.

Haha what an idiot. She has to spend 30 minutes charging her car every 2 weeks!

Meanwhile I make the 9 hour trip back and forth to pick up my step kids every week without ever waiting on my ice vehicle to be ready.
