Obviously go out in groups avoid being alone in a dark or unfamiliar place.
Don't go run at 430am in Memphis or any other minority city.

Pepper gel it's more a a liquid you won't get any on you like pepper spray
Also a very good stun gun will give you time to get some distance in between the assailant.

My ex is hugely anti-gun, but I wouldn't want to get in scrap with her in her house. She is slender/thin body type, so she doesn't look like she'd be much trouble, but she has at least a dozen cans of wasp spray strategically placed around her house and a nasty disposition when provoked. Id prefer she had a gun, but my money is on the skinny Dutch girl.

Also, she keeps a fricking giant Maglight on her bedside table. Not for illumination purposes, but to fracture the perp's knee or skull, whichever is more convenient, after being blinded by a can or three of wasp spray. She's not to be trifled with.

And when the perp limps into UMC's ED smelling like Spectricide, even NOPD ought to be able to solve that crime.

Be aware and silently profile/stereotype everyone and every car around you.

When alone walking, at gas stations, in parking lots, etc. always cross streets, turn around and double back, get back in your own car and lock doors, etc. if you see or feel something wrong. There are obvious characteristics to a lot of crimes that are avoidable.

eta: sorry read OP as advice and not device

Spray. Not the stuff that you get at Academy, but rather Freeze +P or similar. Get it on Amazon or at your local police supply. Be sure to get the stream and not the cone spray. Cones can blow back on her in a slight wind - less likely with the stream. Freeze is a combo of pepper, tear gas, and an ultraviolet dye. Attacker will glow under a black light for over 24 hours - positive identification. With sprays you are looking for SHU ratings of 2,000,000 or more. Do not be concerned with 10% capsicum pepper etc. that places like Academy use to market. Ideally, she should do a monthly test spray to make sure the canister is working. Expiration dates apply to the propellants, but not to the active ingredient. If you have a can that is 3 years expired, but still sprays - it's going to hurt. Some people can fight through the pain. Police and military are trained to do weapons retention after being sprayed, so just understand it will not stop an attacker cold. What it does do is effectively render an attacker temporarily blind. The eyes burn like they are on fire. Really the whole face hurts and the tear gas makes you cough and sneeze and for some people it is harder to breath. It just sucks. This will give her an opportunity to escape. Nothing is ever 100% so a Plan B is always good.

Don't so much like stun guns as those require her to get real close to the attacker where spray allows standoff range. Stun guns are also pain compliance and do not lock up large groups of muscles like a Taser can. Pain compliance is not always effective. The probes on a stun gun are close and only shock the small amount of muscle between them.

If you really like the idea of a stun gun, then get a civilian Taser. It is a little better than police Tasers because its pulse lasts for 30 seconds whereas the police Taser only lasts for 5. That's because the police use Tasers to get someone into cuffs, and the civilian Taser is meant to give a lady time to escape. It may still be that Taser will replace the device for free with a police report. The idea is after deploying it, she is supposed to drop it and run off while the guy is still being shocked.

Think of a civilian Taser as a single shot muzzle loader. Under stress she can miss and she doesn't get a quick follow up shot. The Taser can still be driven into the attacker's flesh and used as a stun gun, but it's only pain compliance and a determined attacker could yank it away (recognizing the limitation, I still like it).

Don't like knives for the same reason, she has to get real close to use them.

I know you’re being facetious, but the aforementioned will keep you alive in a place like Baton Rouge.

Stay away from Nissan Altimas that look like this.

There is absolutely zero reason you should not be carrying every single day. Man woman whatever. There is no such thing as “good” parts of these cities anymore. When you roll outside of the house you are rolling outside the wire.

I’m sorry but running in the middle of the night in Memphis is fricking idiotic. I feel horrible for her and the family but for fricks sake pull your head out of your arse people

I recommend the Lodge 12” for petit women, and the Lodge 14” for those husky girls.
