Other than a gun, what self-defense device would you advise females to carry??

The Memphis Fletcher murder has intensified my worry for my daughter’s safety. Other than a gun, is there any self-defense product y’all recommend??
Edit: I forced her, despite an abundance of eye rolls and eww no

Did you hear the one (from NOLA) that happened at the corner of Jackson Square. A cook at the bakery saw a purse snatch, and had a half open big bag of flour that he hit the perp with when the perp ran by him. Easy catch and purse return for the police.
