So I tried something new today. I've been sick of eating fish/chicken everyday for lunch with a sweet potato. I ate out today and decided to go to Hardee's. I got a 1/2 pound bacon thickburger, held the mayo and threw out the bun. No fries or a coke. Made me think- what would be the downside to doing this more often? Essentially, I ate a 1/2 pound burger with bacon, 1 slice of cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion. I actually like having red meat in the diet as I am very active and lifting pretty heavily. Doesn't seem all that bad?

If you have a Carl's Jr they do lettuce wrap burgers, and they are pretty damn good.

I've done this on occasion.

The problem is they just put so much saturated fat and sodium in their shite that doing it more than once every few weeks really hurts your performance.

And I am not anti-red meat at all. I have a steak or some kind of beef at least once a week.

As long as you are burning more than what you are putting in, you'll be fine

one fast food meal won't kill you or throw you off your rhythm

Some people can handle the super healthy foods all day, everyday. Most people honestly can't and that leads to crashing and cravings that ruin diets and workout efforts.

That's why people do the "IIFYM" - if it fits your macros and eat whatever they want as long as they hit their caloric and macronutrient goals

Honestly, if you're older or on a diet for health reasons, etc IIFYM is bad. I get the same amount of nutrition from 10 pieces of bacon as I would in some avocados and white meat chicken, but if I have hypertriglyceridemia/hyperlipidemia, diabetes, and high blood pressure the bacon is not going to be my friend because of the sodium and type of fat I'm ingesting.

Count your calories, do whatever, but if you want to treat yourself out once a week to fast food, do it. Just make sure not to overeat, binge eat, or start eating out often again. Hell, what I used to do was cut the burger in half and eat half the fries for lunch and I would save the other half for the next day

And for those that are all gungho IIFYM pushers and make fun of "bro-science" foods, there's fit and there's healthy. I rather be healthy than fit, it is not synonymous. I've met body builders who eat like shite and ripped like an ape, but their BP/glucose/trigly are high that they need to be on medication.

Ive lost 30lbs on iifym this year. Enjoyed alot of ice cream and chips during that time also. Its all about portion control.

Edit: still ate alot of chicken breast and red meat for protein.

Calories in < Calories out.

If I don't eat red meat for a couple weeks I get a wicked craving. I'm a man.

I just started working out and trying to eat right (with a goal of gaining 30 pounds), and I learned real quick that it's a hell of a lot easier to get calories from bad/fast food than it is to get them from healthy food.

I barely hit 3000 calories a day even with a muscle milk shake in the morning and before bedtime.
If I ate McDonalds 3 times a day it would be a snap.

If your body isn't used to greasy food, prepare to be in the bathroom.

I'm in favor of eating more vegetables at lunch, but what you did is fine in a pinch.

FWIW, I cook about 10 burgers at home on Sunday (along with a shite ton of other meat) for lunches during the week.

Red meat is fine, don't believe the BS

For this IIFYM do you really just eat whatever you want, as long as it fits the macros? How do you like this, and what are your macro %'s and totals?

Agreed! Butter is not bad. The problem comes from eating too many fats with carbs.

This! IIFYM is the easiest imo. It's all about sticking with a goal if you want to lose weight and keep it off. IIFYM allows you to eat whatever you want as long as it fits in your macros.
