If you are set on commuting you need to be sure to pick an airline whose base will go junior. I think Endeavor at ATL is pretty senior. That's not to say you can't hold it as a reserve, but you might be spending a lot of time at a crash pad in Long Island before getting your desired base.

Mesa at IAH is a good option, they have been growing and along with PSA are getting a lot of new planes from UA and AA, respectively.

I don't know a ton about Mesa on the inside, but was talking with a UA network planner last year about operational reliability at the regionals. He told me that "Mesa is willing to land with a hell of a lot less fuel than SkyWest" and seems to have no problem deferring items on the MEL longer than others.

Good to know. That’s awesome!

Got it. Saved to my favorites. Thanks.

No problem. The Pilot Network is another resource geared mostly towards getting hired and is free. They’re on FB if you have that, but I accessed it through their website.

ETA: Disregard the free part, apparently they’ve started charging. I guess I joined before they began charging.

Yeah, but what's the upgrade time/rules for someone with my experience.

Some regionals upgrade strictly based on seniority, some on seniority and/or need if no FO's are qualified.

and has zero to do with getting off one's arse and getting an airline job, that's all on the CA anyway, fuel isn't a huge priority with the bug smashers right now, not sure what the point is

could be that the "planner" was used to looking at UA fuel loads, all relative I guess, road the jumpseat on an A-321 the other day and was looking at the fuel and it was getting close to departure time and was thinking, shite, we need some gas, turns out FOB was release fuel, then I was thinking I couldn't remember the last time I'd landed with that little gas, takes me more to start up and taxi out than the enroute burn on that leg

Fuel planning blew my mind at the airlines. I’ll take 6 hours of gas for a 2 hour flight without thinking twice about it. Makes it easy. I never felt unsafe at the 121 job, we just had to give fuel more consideration than at the military job. Couple of turns in holding and it’s time to think about what you want to do.

you guys don't do fuel jettison practice anymore?

fuel is a biggie for the airlines, we don't tanker a lot as a rule, still boils down to what the captain is comfortable landing with

Might have something to do with this.

Funny you mention that. I dumped fuel in the sim this morning. Never have in the plane.

So you are saying that my brother, who is a salesman, could possibly play his cards right and be flying for Delta in two years?
No.

If he does, I should kill myself.

I’ll join you. I’ve been flying commercially for about 6 years now and I’ve had apps in from day one and update them every month. I’ve been to job fairs and have about 10 LORs at United and delta and can’t get a look. I’ve got about 4000 hours just over 1000 TPIC and a college degree. Hiring at the majors now is a crapshoot and controlled by HR, long gone are the days of having your buddy walk your resume in and hooking you up.
