I figured there would be naysayers on here, but I value feedback, positive or negative from anybody who has seen one.

Finally at that point in life where shite hurts for no reason and doesn’t go away in 24 hours.

A good one is a godsend.

My chiro is a talented sob. I go when I feel it’s time or have done something stupid to myself. Or I’m too tight.

Rarely takes more than one visit every few months.

Keeps me lined out.

Legit quacks.

I mean, seriously, popping your back does nothing. It just pops, it's literally physics. It means nothing.

My legit answer is that a good chiropractor can help and, more importantly, will know when they can't and will tell you they can't.

I always tell people that if you schedule an appointment and they don't take X-rays before treating you, find another one. They should not dive in blind, nor should you let them — especially if you have no or limited documented history with the issue. They should take x-rays first and go from there.

They're legit, although some are much better than others.

My current one TWICE showed me the problem was muscular, not skeletal, and prescribed specific stretching which fixed the problem essentially costing him business. That said he's not very good at the art of bone popping because he doesn't try to relax you, he just uses force. My old timer who passed away could relax you in less than 30 seconds and use one-tenth the force.

Chiropractors are like any other serviceman. You may have to go through a few to find a really good one.

The genuinely help. Many years ago, one gave me a new lease on life. I was in so much constant pain that I was at my wits end and was considering offing myself. I couldn’t live with the pain any longer. The “real” doctors did nothing to help. The chiropractor saved my life.

That being said, the ones who say “come back 3 times per week for a year” may be quacks. But I think a lot of those have been weeded out.

My chiro had psychic abilities! He knew before treatment the exact number of visits, which also just happened to be the allotted number of visits paid for by my insurance, it would take to fix my issue.

Chiros have done wonders for my neck when orthos just thew pills at me and recommendations of surgery. I get adjusted about twice a month and hardly experience pain anymore.

chiropractors: legit or quacks?
Both. It's like a box of chocolates.

Chiropractors can be excellent dealing with the infamous "crick in the back," stiff neck, SI joint issues, etc. I'd have no problem referring patients to one.

But as with any field, there are good and bad practitioners. A few years back, one of our folks had a stiff neck, got manipulated, and ended up with two torn vertebral arteries. Had a bad headache, and dizziness an hour or so after the manipulation, to the extent that she reported to the ER. Work up there found the torn vertical arteries and she got them stinted. Full recovery no problems. Lucky girl. Worse yet, when she let the guy know what had happened, he told her it had nothing to do with him, and insisted the manipulation could not possibly have caused her problem.

Meanwhile, chiropractors claiming good results treating diabetes or other non-muscular skeletal issues with back manipulation are quacks.

Id go to a deep tissue massage therapist and if that didnt work I'd see a Dr. I'd skip the back cracker.

My old lady (no pics) was an MT and she worked magic on pinched nerves.

Chiropractor is a bad word in ortho doctor offices, but pain management doctors seem to like them and even suggest them. Orthos claim that chiros are just treating the symptoms, while orthos promote lifestyle changes.

For chiropractors, you have to go in for multiple sessions before you get results of feeling better.

A few months ago, I had bad back pain for the first time in my life. I think the disc was bulging for years but the pain was minor (I had sciatica), but I finally injured it while working out. I could not sleep at night for several days, and was often in tears.

After getting on with a pain doctor, I started with the chiro I have used for a few years for wellness. He put me on a decompression table for about 10 visits. Also I tried his new shockwave therapy machine. After several weeks, the pain was gone.

I have had no complaints.

I’m sure there are lots of quacks but the few I’ve been to are knowledgeable and awesome. It’s temporary relief but it’s legit stuff.

Makes you feel great for about 20 minutes.

They will keep you there as long as you can pay.

I will also continue to contend that a decent looking male chiropractor gets all sorts of arse that they would otherwise have no access to.
