You are correct and the Germans kept the romans at bay and stopped their advance into Europe at the Rhine.
Also it was a group of Germans that sacked Rome the last time before Rome fell if I remember correctly. I wish we knew more about the ancient Germans than we do because they sound fascinating to me

I think most people who are saying Spartans are only thinking of the battle of thermopylae. Although this was a great stand by the Spartans and theirvwstriors were fierce the reason it worked is because of leonidas and his strategic skill. He picked the perfect place to put his army vs the Persians. It would have been a slaughter if they had just met on an open plain though. The terrain was key in their stand. Imagine a football team full of huge linebackers and lineman on the goalline vs a spread team, then the same team at the 50 yd line. The persians had better cavalry and ranged weapons they just couldn't properly use otherwise it would've been a slaughter

The special forces would kill everyone in front of them. They would begin at night with their night vision and route anyone in front of them. If ammunition wasn't an issue the would simply kill every soldier in front of them and overwhelm any army of that time. Included would be their body armor. Minimum number of 100 with unlimited ammunition.
