OT hypothetical: let’s say you wanted to conquer the ancient world

You can use any civilization up until the advent of firearms, because that would prove unequal and once firearms came into play, the technological rate of change has skyrocketed. As in, the US military of today steamrolls the US military of Vietnam, and probably the Gulf War.
Also, all forces will be equal in number, I’d say all forces would have 500,000 people in their ranks.

The Chinese dynasty just before the advent of gun powder. If I was able to unite all of China, I would have virtually limitless resources, people, and a population that is historically subservient to the government.

Whoops that didn’t register in my slightly under caffeinated brain. Only 500,000 to conquer the world? Well the Mongols came damn near close to doing that with about that many warriors in real life

I figured a lot would say this. You could also possibly throw the Comanches into the realm of being as good on horseback as the Mongols, they just were t completely united and could not really expand due to the oceans.

Kind of a detour, but I’ve always wondered how a modern special forces unit would stand up to say, the entire British army in the American Revolution. Or maybe even less recent, for example, the team from Predator against Napoleon.

Not downplaying that at all, just think the mongol leadership at their most powerful will be tough to match at any point in history, hence why I’d take them . Now if I’m leading the army, don’t think it matters which army I get, we ain’t conquering shite
