When God did not bless Cain’s offering of the literal fruits of his labor from his vineyards, can it be extrapolated that the results of how we do our jobs on a daily basis are the fruit that we sacrifice to him, and that God will not bless our work unless we give our best effort?

By bless I do not mean strictly money or acclaim, since those things aren’t what fulfills or gives one meaning at their job and there are plenty terrible people making lots of money and having fame

Jesus fixed this. Waiting for a Jewish scholar to step in.

Well, he caused us not to have to build altars and kill or livestock upon them to atone for sin, but we still have to make offerings to God in various forms such as money, time, etc.

would it not make sense that effort would also be a way to make an offering?

NB4 this thread, sadly, gets deleted. We ought to be able to discuss religion here without being inundated with trolls, edgelords and political hacks.

He didn't bless Cain because what was in his heart, not because of the fruits from his labor. He told him to stop looking down and raise your eyes. Meaning fix your eyes on Jesus

Sure, God creates the universe and sits around waiting to bless offerings.

Unfathomable mis-allocation of God’s talents, no? Cain’s self esteem issues are biblical.

Not a biblical scholar, but I can only assume that since the author of that portion of Genesis did not include the reason why Cain’s offering was not accepted, then the reason was not important to him. Able’s story was the important part he wanted to tell, Cain’s was likely superfluous. This of course, tells the author’s intent, not God’s.

Cain's offering (or love for God) was a mere afterthought. A lazy attempt.

Interesting. But, could it not be said that how we perform our jobs is a reflection of what’s in our heart?

A Christian should be the best employee at work, if that's what you're getting at, but I don't think the Biblical account of Cain's sacrifice not being accepted is proof of that.

While I don't disagree with this statement there are a lot of Hindus that make GREAT doctors and workers. Some atheists as well.

Isogetically speaking, ie placing into the text a Christ centric interpretation, Abel’s offering was the blood of the lamb and Cain’s was the work of his hands

Meaning, prophetically speaking, God only accepts the blood offering of the lamb (Jesus) over man’s works.

i have heard it discussed as "first Fruits" Cain gave out of his excess, and it wasnt he best. while able gave the "first". he gave God the best of his offerings.

as stated Able gave of pure heart, while Cain gave of obligation.
